Smile Can I get some help on a price to sell

I am going to sell my truck and I am having a hard time figuring what a reasonable asking price for my truck is. Locally there are not any trucks similar to mine for sale to compare too. I have looked at the classifieds here, and got some prices, but I am wondering what these trucks are really selling for. I know diferent parts of the country will cause for variation in price, but if any one has any input, i would love to hear it. Here's what I got:

99 F150 Super Cab XLT 4x4 Short bed
5.4L
Auto
3.55 Limited Slip
Electric shift 4wd
Skid plates
Sliding rear window
2 tone paint
Keyless entry
Tow package
26,000 miles

The truck is in excellent condition in and out. Thanks for the help.

Thumbs up

Also look at nada.com.

I'd keep away form the classifieds in the papers. Most people advertising in there don't know what to ask and are asking no where near what it should be. My experience is the the old newspaper ads just don't work anymore.

Also look at comparables at www.autotrader.com You can see others for sale in and around you're area. It's also a good place to list your's. I got a buyer from about 150 miles away!

I went through the same process selling a rice burner that couldn't pull my new boat and buying a used F150. Used nadaguides.com and autotrader.com (Kelly book) to get wholesale and retail prices, ran the truck I was selling through the condition check to determine how to rate its condition. I figured wholesale was way too low as asking price as like your truck, mine rated "excellent" and was still under factory warranty. I asked closer to retail because there wasn't any reconditioning necessary to put the truck on sale - a dealer would have offered it as is -and because it came with warranty protection. It sold in less than a week sitting out on the street with signs in the windows. No classified ad necessary. Try to look at what the dealers nearby are asking to see what your competition is. Prices are soft here. Good luck to you.

webfoot, You brought up some thing I totally forgot about. Will the trucks 3yr/36k waranty transfer over to the new owner? Is it a 3yr/36k or 3yr/30k waranty, I can't remember?

Yes,the warranty is transferable. 3/36, far as I know - you should have a warranty booklet that spells it out. The warranty is important to prospective buyers! On my Nissan PU, the 3/36 had expired but that particular year/model had a 5/50 drivetrain warranty. When I changed the signs in the windows to show it was still under Nissan warranty, interest perked up considerably. Some people will buy from dealers just to get the watered down short term warranty so it helps in a private sale to be able to offer unused factory warranty.

A buddy of mine traded in his vehicle at an Autonation affiliated dealership. He calculated the value based upon what the Autonation.com site told him it was worth. I think that they use KBB data, but it is worth using it for reference purposes because this dealership didn't even second-guess the number.
