Post F-150 re-design in the near future?

Hey,
First of all, I think the current F-150's are the best trucks on the road. They also look awesome. However, I was wondering if Ford is planning on re-designing the truck in the near future? I'm a college student about to enter my final year, and the first thing I plan to do after I get a job is buy myself a brand new F-150, because they're the best of course. I was just wondering if I should wait another year in case they decide to re-design them.
I would appreciate any input y'all would have to offer. Thanks.

Ryan

Hey Ryan, Welcome to the boards!
Word on the street is,2003 is the redesign year, but there was a pic in Truck Trends of the 02 Expy, with a wrapper on it. It may be the new F-150 design we've been waiting for. It looked to have bigger headlights, and a different bumper.
Can't wait to see it myself!,,,,,98

Thanks,
I had just noticed the changes they've been making with the Ranger and Explorer... squaring things off and all. Seems like the F-150 and Expedition are the only ones that still have the "rounded" look. I don't know if that's a good explanation, but it's the best thing I can come up with this late.

Something I've noticed since about '93 Ford seems to always have a recent college grad incentive. The incentive is only $400 but 400 in my pocket is better than in theirs. Unfortunatly the one they have now is if you graduate before i thing Jan of '02. Even if they don't redesign it might be wort it to wait a couple of months.

Along the same lines...
How come they didn't change the F-150 to look like the F-250 or 350. I like that look a lot better. It would be a bigger truck. Was it not economical? Just wondering...If that is the line they went with the re-design I would do some looking about trading mine in....MEEK

Thanks for your input. I don't know about making them look more like the heavy-duty trucks. Actually, I kind of like what they've done with the new Rangers. I think the F-150's would look really awesome if they slightly squared them off like the Ranger and the new 2002 Explorer.

i would like it if they didn't slant the front down quite as much as they do, but not have it as straight out as the SD's. make it look a little bigger, but not coppy the SD.

MechE they are releasing a "baby" powerstroke. I think its suppose to be a 5 something Liter engine. They are also supposed to be developing a new 5spd auto tranny to compete with the new Allison. I think its the A5LD but not sure on that. But as far as I know the new engine has already been developed and is just about ready for production but I haven't heard anything on the new tranny other than they are developing one.

Cool

The F-150's we have now are the bomb there's nothing better looking out there so lets all be happy with the design we have now, we don't ride on the hood so its designed for airflow. Just drive!!! because the best never rest

Thumbs up

I love the way the F150s look currently! If I didnt, I would have bought a Dodge or waited for the redesigned Z71's that came out in late '98. (I bought my F150 in April of '98) To this day, the F150s are the best looking trucks on the road...Can I get an AMEN??? lol

AMEN!

Im also wondering what the new generation of F-Series are going to look like. Im sure i will like it no matter what they do with the next style and will get one when my current 150 has done its time. Even if i dont like the look of the next generation, i cant even picture myself buying a dodge or chevy. Thats like a sin.

11th Commandment: Thou shall not purchase a Dodge or Chevy. Thou shall purchase only Ford.

Can i get an AMEN on that one too?

I've read that ford is releasing a new desiel for the f150 in '03 or later. I wouldnt be suprised if a body change happens then. Bigger engine=bigger tranny=body redesign.
