wow she has grown... shes adorable though . Enjoy it while shes young... when my puppy was young we used to get frustrated with her because she was always so energetic and chewed things and didn't always "make it outside in time" and this and that, but now that shes getting old and can barely move, I wish for those puppy days again. ALthough probably within a year or so, she'll pass on and I'll wish for any time with her again *sniff sniff*.

I got my golden retriever puppy when I was 7 years old. I'm now 20, so you can understand the attachment I've got... I can't remember a time when I didn't have her, and shes one of those great dogs you hear about thats always at the door waiting for you, and whining when you leave, and wanting to spend every minute with you. I tell people we have some sort of telepathic communication going on but no one believes me, but heres a few examples
- I'll be sitting there feeling glum, just wishing she'd come in and make me feel better. ABout 10 seconds later in she'll walk and set her head on my lap and instantly make me feel better.
- whenever she is sick, I am sick. Coincidence? Doubtful. Did anyone see ET?
- when she had surgery a few years back I was in horrible physical pain myself, and as she got out of pain my pain felt better as well.

Anyways, just because a dog is an animal doesn't mean they can't be your best friend. Yours is adorable . I especially like this one...

Actually, our 2 cats did that. I would like to let Sydney eat them but my wife would kill her. She loves her cats. I love my dog. Oh well.

I know exactly how you feel. I was the same age ( same age as you) when I got my dog (a ****er spaniel/? mix). I agree that a dog can be your best friend. I have yet to find a cat that is as smart as a dog. She has such an attitude at times and liek you said she can tell when I am having a bad day. My dog (Dasiy) is now geeting very old and will not live much longer. To tell you the truth we look for her to go any day now. Something has happened to her leg so she hops around on just 3, she can barely hear me yell her names at times and I know that she can not see that well anymore. We think that she may have a brain tumor cuasing the sight and hearing loss. I will miss her when she's gone. I'll have to get a pic out and edit this and post it here.

Man, you guys are depressing me. I have this to look forward to? Geesh, maybe I shouldn't have gotten a dog. I look forward to spending a long time with her...hopefully. I heard that German Shepards are known to have health issues. She's extremely smart being that she's part German Shepard and part Border Collie. I think she'll be a great dog...once she gets a little older. She's into everything right now. I can't keep up with her. She eats shoes, tables, kids toys, our cats , and anything on the kitchen counter if we're not right there watching her. But, all in all, she's a good pooch.

lariat, I hope you didn't misunderstand. It's not like I wouldn't have gotten a dog if I had to do it all over again, and once my dog dies, I'll probably get another golden retriever puppy and go through it all again. Just don't take your time together for granted . I know I'm a much happier person altogether for having a dog!

Mattbert, I didn't misunderstand your point, I just thought it was a little depressing. That's all.

well I'm sure you've got many years ahead of fun times to be had, and that's what counts. Don't think of how bad it will be in 10 or 12 years or whatever when shes so old, otherwise people would never get married, they'd think "geez I don't want to see what she looks like in 30 years" LOL.
All in all, a few destroyed shoes here and there, a few tinkles on the carpet are well worth the unconditional love a dog can give.

The main thing about German Shepards are their hips. Too many puppy mills and white trash individuals inbreeding the animals. Being a mix, I'm not sure how much of a factor her hips are going to be. You should have her x-rayed for hip dysplasia when she's done with her growth spurt.

Thanks, MrScot. I will do that. I think 1 year is probably a good time.

lariet4wd,
i have some positive news for you. you could have my new pup. i wanted a partner for my 1/2 yellow lab 1/2 golden. i took the kids to the pound, wanting a large dog. my pup is 75 lbs. now. anyway, my daughters found an adorable little white puppy with brown spots on him, we played and had fun, then decided ok. his paws were huge, by the way. took him in the shelter to talk buying and found out he is 1/2 great pyranees and 1/2 st. bernard. he is now 9 weeks old and weighs close to 30 lbs. the vet said to expect 180 to 200 lbs. what a sweet puppy..LMAO...Rich

ah, sorry Buck, my last dog died a few years ago. I actually had him cremated at a human funeral home. I found they treat them much better than the vet of local trash burning plant or do they call them something else now. he's burried in a nice urn in front of the house. sad thing is he had a better funeral that I'd want! lol
