Question Need Advice On Ext. Warrenty Purchase.

My 01 4.6L with 10,000 miles went in for blown head gaskets this weekend, and it just so happens that I got an extended warrenty offer in the mail from Ford on Sat. I've been considering keeping this truck, and going ahead with the warrenty, but I need a little information first.
- Where is the best place to get a warrenty from, as far as cost, and quality is concerned? Do they have a plan to make several payments?

- Is their any way I could re-finance my truck through Ford Credit, adding, a warrenty, and extending the term for a few months?

- Is now the time to get the warrenty or will I have another opportunity sometime down the road, closer to expiration of the factory warrenty?

- I'm mainly concerned with warrenty of the 5 speed tranny, and engine componets. Which plan is best for me, "Premium care" or "Extra Care"? Any not so obvious advantages to one or the other?

Thanks guys, for your time. I appreciate it a lot.

Go with the Extra. The Premium is $270 more and offers nothing to justify it. Get both brochures and compare items covered. 6 yr/100,000 about $1070.00

Go with Ford. I'm not sure, but I think if you went with another party's warranty, you may have to come up with the cash to pay the servicing dealer and wait for a remimbursment. For some people, that would be a hardship, so that's something to watch out for.

Jackal -

I am looking at the warranty situation for my truck too. Here is what I know:

1) If buying the Ford ESP, you can buy it later, but a surcharge will be tacked on if you purchase after 12mos/12,000 miles.
2) Some other aftermarket warranties require you to pay for repairs up front and submit receipts for reimbursement.
3) Other aftermarket warranties are not honored everywhere.
4) The Ford ESP is honored at all Ford dealerships.
5) If you do the math, the difference between the $50 deductible and the $100 deductible amounts to about one extra payment (if paying over 18 mos). The first time you take it in for a covered repair, you save enough in deductible payments to make selecting the $50 deductible a no-brainer.
6) The major components (engine, transmission, transfer case, axles, hubs, AC, etc) are equally covered in both the Premium and ExtraCare. Premium adds things like emissions and safety features.

I will be signing up for my ford ESP today, as I am at 11,942 miles!

Hehehe...thanks man!!! I believe the surcharge is $100, so I think I'll wait a little longer, and talk with a dealership somewhere down the road a little bit. I wanna see how it turns out first, after I get it back with head gasket replacment.

I went with warrantybynet.com, coast was $1164 for 6 years and 100,000 miles, no deductable, 45 days into the extended warranty my rear end went out, $1400 to fix it. I had the dealer fix it but with warrantybynet.com you dont have to, you can take it to your local mechanic as long as he runs a real shop.

Is the extended worth it, I would not own a Ford 4X4 truck without it.

Ford's extended plan has a deductable and is almost $750 more for the same plan I got from Warrantybynet.com

My plan covers everthing except items like brake pads, tires and belts.

Scooby - just got off the phone with Gene Louder. He can sell me the 6yr/75,000 mi ExtraCare for $840 as opposed to $1380! Thanks to your tip, I will go ahead and upgrade to PremiumCare for less than I was going to spend on the ExtraCare ($995).

Dewayne,

Read Scooby's original post in this thread - talk to Gene and he will hook you up. The price in my 2nd post in this thread is for the truck in my sig in my 1st post in this thread. Need your decoder ring to follow all that?

JDMnAR,

Decoder ring working fine. I was refering to Screwking's Ford price of $1070 for 6/100,000 versus my letter price of $1140 for the Extra plan.

This is quoted before the discussion started about the discounted price from Gene Louder - which is a good price. Or is my decoder out of sync with all others?

Cool

Thanks, Scooby. Saved me $150 over what the lowest price the dealer over here would give.

Base 4/100,000 $845 on a '99 F150 4x4

I can't see paying the extra money for an Extra Care warr. and then having a $50 deduct when most other things that break outside the Base should be less than a couple hundred bucks to repair.
