*Inspection Question*
In NC they no longer have the inspection sticker on the front windshield, now your inspection expires when your plate expires. No need to run anything, just look at the stickers.
Just go get your truck inspected, then you won't have to worry about it.

Yes. In NY they have a camera/scanner mounted to alot of cop cars and they can tell if your registration and/or inspection are expired.
Ive seen cops go up and down rows in parking lots checking.

Reminds me of that TV show in PHILLY where there just scanning all the cars to put boots on.
Im asking because my CE light has been on and I dont really have the $$$ to put into it right now to get it to pass. My g/f just got hers but the sticker keeps falling off, so I was going to have her get a new one and I'll use her old one...........
also in texas you can have one not ready on the computer, so if you reset it before you went and got there before the CE came on theres a possiblity you could pass also. finding out the code will help alot. advance and auto zone i believe will check codes for free
using her old one might not work, if a cop pulls you over and they run your plates they might realize that thats not your sticker and you could get screwed some more.
where do you live? might be able to help you out a little more

Umm... posting it on a forum to do something illegal is NOT a good place.
I know of many members that cops on here!
Just get the truck fixed... it's not good for the truck to be running with a CEL in the first place.
I believe you can also get a 10 day (or more) inspection deferral if you got paperwork that the truck is being worked on and you bring it by the DMV.

That's a little different because state laws vary on the percentage of what is acceptable.
Where as what he is doing is outright illegal in any jurisdiction.

Agreed. Follow the inspection rules.

I live in NY. Its not the truck its my work car. It needs new outer tie rods to pass which im getting done this week. The last time it was inspected they deleted the code and I drove it for a few days and the car passed, then came on again that day and has been on/off since with the same code. Its a code for a tranny problem that seems to be common with these cars.
Ive deleted it a bunch of time but it keeps coming back around 15-40 miles. Seems like most places have different opinions on how to fix it and what it really is. But a few have said they just changed the tranny fluid and it came off, others said they took the tranny apart. The tranny feels and drives fine. Im going to make an appointment with Aamco transmission since they check it for free and see what they say along with another local tranny place. I guess im just scared of how big of a problem its going to be along with the $$$$$$$. I might just delete it and drive it a bit then try and get it inspected, everything else with the car is fine.

I found this trying to figure how it works...

So instead of a windsheild sticker, the inspecting station updates the DMV database?
Or do you get a certificate to mail or take in at plate renewal time?
you can't have the CEL on
you have to test the light is actually working (key on engine off)
have to hook each car up to the computer
Doing as you suggested doesnt really work, since everything is run by the vin number through the database. So your vin# wont match the vehicle description, or your vin # wont have a current inspection if you run a heavy duty vin number.
Just go get your truck inspected. Texas (im sure other states as well) has a program for financial aid in repairing emissions problems if that is what you have a CEL on for.
