Doing as you suggested doesnt really work, since everything is run by the vin number through the database. So your vin# wont match the vehicle description, or your vin # wont have a current inspection if you run a heavy duty vin number.

yea, but it worked... friend had no problem getting registration, he just typed into the computer that it was an HD and put in his vin number, heavy duty didn't require emission


Just go get your truck inspected. Texas (im sure other states as well) has a program for financial aid in repairing emissions problems if that is what you have a CEL on for.
i start working as an inspector tomorrow, i know i got some stuff to learn but from the class im repeating everything the dude told me

any news on getting your old truck back?
