Survival Equipment in your trucks?
There have been alot of "surveys" recently in "General" recently...so:
What "survival gear" do you guys/gals carry in your trucks?
Me? 2Gal gas can, jumper cables, 20' ****** chain, blanket, cheap tool set.
I'm curious as to answers so I can have an excuse to buy more stuff...

Good post murfster! Here in Buffalo, we need 2 different survival kits - 1 for winter & 1 for the other 4 days of the year. For the 4 days that aren't winter, we carry the standard stuff - tools, jumper cables, Bills/Sabres flag to go on the window, menu's for all the best spots to get wings, movie schedules & a pillow because you never know when you may need to take a nap. Think I'm joking? I know people who carry these things!
Now for winter, we do carry extra clothes/socks/boots, food or candy bars, blankets & a can. The can is to be used as a portable bathroom & yes - people HAVE used them! A friend was stuck on the thruway for 16 hours back in Nov when Buffalo got blasted by a blizzard & had no choice.
I actually carry none of this - I have magazines (for rush hour traffic delays), an old jacket & extra windshiled washer fluid. Guess I need to "stock up" on stuff!

under my back seat in a custom-built box under the 40 section of the 60/40, I've got jumper cables, tow straps, and a few tie downs. I also keep two 4D maglites with me and the full toolbag, with the 200 piece sockets, hammer, duct tape, all types of pliers, a full set of wrenches from 6mm up to 1 1/4", metric and standard (since ford always uses both), a spare thing of oil, spare thing of grease, spare brake pads, 5 gallon can of gas (jammed in between the roll bar and the truck bed), 5 gallon container of water (not really for drinking but it would do if I was dying of thirst, it's more for the radiator), jammed in between the roll bar and the truck bed on the OTHER side
can of fix a flat for large tires
a large assortment of zip ties.
I've never had to use most of that stuff but the tools come in handy QUITE often and it's always better to know you've got plenty of spare gas with you should you run out (or should you see some hottie chick whos run out)... especially when your 50 miles from the next gas station, your blinking "low fuel", but this gas station is just a little too "icky" LOL j/k!.
AHh yes, and the ol Ruger 9mm auto theft insurance in the back seat

Where do you guys put all of this stuff? I've only got a pair of jumper cables and a small set ratchet set that slides nicely under the back seat. I tend to be the taxi service to the golf course so i can't have stuff all over the back seat. Do you guys (gals) have large toolboxes in the back or what?
I have a 3D mag-lite, survival blanket, jumper cables, tow straps, flares, fire extingisher, fix-a-flat stuff, 2 cell phones (work and personal), a 1050 amp battery under hood, 2 tool kits (just to make sure I have the right socket
), and more car care stuff than I can think of (durn birds).
As for where I keep most of it..I have 3 milk crates under the tonnau cover that I keep in place with an assortment of bungie cords. Others I keep in the door pockets and under the xcab seat.
(and murfster...you might want to get rid of the starband link till they get what they have now working right..or are you not having the problems we are??)

I have the SkyBlaster system, not the 180 USB system.
Just my opinion: if you can't get Cable or DSL, StarBand is the way to go.
Well, let's see... two rainsuits, a tool kit with metric and standard, tons of bungee cords, a snakelight, a maglight, extra batteries for the flashlights, tie-down straps, a 20' tow strap that broke Sat. night while pulling out an Explorer, two umbrellas, jumper cables, work gloves and the trusty Ruger 9mm. All of it except for the Ruger and the umbrellas is crammed into a "pilot" style suitcase and stuck beneath the 40 portion of the backseat. There are a few assorted items in the console, but none worth mentioning. Hey Mattbert, I'd like to see a picture of that custom built box beneath the 40, it sounds like exactly what I need!

The everyday basics: Cellular phone, GPS unit, small tool bag, jumper cables, flashlight, air compressor, misc. tie downs, hitch accessories and handgun of some sort (usually Colt Gov't model - either .380ACP or .45ACP).
This is usually augmented when on long trips by: gas cans, water can, fix a flat and anything else I think of!
