Survival Equipment in your trucks?
Battery cable. Tow strap. Flares (pyro and electric). Flashlight. Two quarts of bottled water. Firstaid kit. Knife. Automatic center punch to break windows. Safety cutter for seatbelts. Fire extinguisher (to put out other fires 'cause I'd let my truck burn to the ground and get a new one to save on the hassle of getting it repaired right). Cell phone. Phone book.

Well, let's see... two rainsuits, a tool kit with metric and standard, tons of bungee cords, a snakelight, a maglight, extra batteries for the flashlights, tie-down straps, a 20' tow strap that broke Sat. night while pulling out an Explorer, two umbrellas, jumper cables, work gloves and the trusty Ruger 9mm. All of it except for the Ruger and the umbrellas is crammed into a "pilot" style suitcase and stuck beneath the 40 portion of the backseat. There are a few assorted items in the console, but none worth mentioning. Hey Mattbert, I'd like to see a picture of that custom built box beneath the 40, it sounds like exactly what I need!

. Basically, its just a piece of plywood that I cut to size and dropped in there, and it doesn't move forward because of the angles of the seat brackets.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know what the best tow strap is? Mine broke the other night so I need a new one. I remember going to a link (the link was to a company and was not regarding tow straps but that was the first thing that popped up when you went to the site)from another post not that long ago and I saw a fancy one that I wanted, but I didn't get it because I didn't need it at that time. Now, I can't find the link. I would rather not have the flat strap kind because that's what I had that broke.

Towing/recovery straps...
Make sure you get a recovery strap, not a lifting strap... recovery straps will stretch more. I use a Keeper brand 3 inch wide, 30 foot long strap with a load rating of 30,000 lbs. It was about $40 five years ago... slightly more now. The auto parts store down the street has a 30 foot, 6 inch, 60,000 lb one I've been drooling over for months... but it's $150! Sweet, though!
OK, off the topic... jumper cables, the trailer hitch I use for actually pulling a trailer, the aforementioned tow strap, crescent wrench (for checking the hitch ball) leather gloves, folding shovel, two moving blankets, assorted electrical wires, connectors, fuses, zip-ties crimping pliers/wire cutters, etc, map, pocket knife, basic first aid kit (band aids, neosporin, etc)..
