I watched it online last night. It's not a remake at all. If you ever wondered how the group of characters ever got together, here's yer answer. It was interesting although I thought the story line was a stretch. And it does leave it open for more sequels like how does the old Spock get back to his time. I'd say it is a movie I'd pay to see if I like sci-fi kinda stuff. I'll probably see it again in a theater.

As a life-long Star Trek fan I must say---

This was the BEST Star Trek movie I have ever seen.

Period.
-------------

J.J. Abrams, whoever you are, you have a new fan.

I was a bit miffed by how rapidly promotions were handed out, and ranks skipped (I found that to be utter/complete BS) but, aside from that- awesome. I know you can go up the chain faster than normal, but as far as I know, you can't skip rungs.

Still, an AWESOME movie. The jumps to warp... Worth the price of the DVD when it comes out, in and of itself.

Agreed. (Except field promotions have different rules.) I've actually been thinking about watching it again.

Battlefield Promotions (Types):

*A standard promotion is advancement from current rank to the next highest rank.
*A jumpstep promotion is advancement from current rank to a rank higher than the next highest rank
*A battlefield commission is advancement from a position of enlistment, usually that of a non-commissioned officer to a commissioned officer, generally O-1, also known as Second Lieutenant, or Ensign in the Navy or Coast Guard. Battlefield commissions are awarded on the basis of merit and demonstration of leadership and do not require the subject to attend Officer Training School or Officer Candidate School.

Yep, I knew about that- but, go to from "Mid-Shipman" (Or whatever Starfleet calls their officer trainees) to XO, to CO is a zero to four to five jump step.

James T. Kirk was the fastest person in Starfleet history to make Captain- before Tryla Scott did it even faster. Wonder what she did to get there faster than Kirk did.

U.S. Navy / Starfleet

O-1, Ensign
O-2, Lieutenant Jr. Grade
O-3, Lieutenant
O-4, Lieutenant Commander
O-5, Commander
O-6, Captain
O-7, Rear Admiral, LH
O-8, Rear Admiral, UH
O-9, Vice Admiral
O-10, Admiral

U.S. Army / Marines / Air Force

O-1, 2nd Lieutenant
O-2, 1st Lieutenant
O-3, Captain
O-4, Major
O-5, Lieutenant Colonel (High School buddy of mine just attained this rank)
O-6, Colonel
O-7, Brigadier General
O-8, Major General
O-9, Lieutenant General
O-10, General

I probably will also....maybe 2 more times.
There is nothing like Sci Fi and the big screen.

In times of war or in combat anything is possible from promotions to demotions to shot on the spot.

I saw it the night it came out. I thought it was an awesome movie. I go to a lot of movies, and a large majority of them get applause after. I don't understand it. I keep expecting the cast and crew to walk out from behind the screen and take a bow one of these days.

How can you have time travel and no cameo with William Shatner?

Nimoy was good but, how in the world do you leave out the Priceline.com guy?

"Damnit Jim! I'm a doctor not an agent!"
