Very good idea to stay away from losing the weight fast. I was on a diet once (supposedly doctor approved) where I was averaging losing about 4 to 5 lbs a week. It was only 900 calories a day. But shortly after this my dad (he was on this diet too)had to have his gall bladder removed. Since all this happened I have been having the same symptoms, but they haven't bothered me in almost 4 months. But other people in town that were on the same diet had the same problem that my dad did.

Sundog just said it all. That program is great, and you will see results. Be patient in whatever you do. Used to be around 200 now down to 153. 5'-6".

Sundog 7,
Thanks for that link. It looks like a good program but there is just no way my budget can afford that kind of program. $300.00 + a month just for supplements!? I do good just to buy a protein supplement for about $50 a month. I've got to do this on a poor man's budget :-( But thanks anyway. Anybody else got suggestions, comments etc.?

No kidding fordtec2001, I just make myself bring my lunch everyday so I am not tempted. There is a little mom and pop restaurant across the street that makes the best burgers.... Worst yet, I get to see it in my window ALL DAY LONG!

Cool

I dropped 12 pounds by switching from Shiner Bock to Bud Light and from Mountian Dew to Diet Coke. That may not seem like alot of weight, but on my skinny frame it did make for a pot belly.

Cowlady,
WW is great, I have sort of followed my wife on it and we have both lost over 40lbs in about a year and it really was not that hard.

Post Anyone else battling the bulge out there?

I've been trying for a while now. Anybody got any tips/secrets they want to share? I do stationary bike for about 75 or more miles a week plus I weight train 2-3 days a week. What are you doing? How is it working for you? I know this is a truck site but surely some of you think about your fitness as much as your truck, right?

I trimmed down from 275 to 220-225 range last year eating lots of chicken and tuna. Slim fast for breakfast, 2 boneless skinless grilled chicken breast and cup of rice for lunch, can of tuna in water for afternoon and 10 pm snack, chicken and 2 whole plain potatoes for dinner and lowfat cottage cheese with pineapple chunks for a sweet fix.
I'm 6-4 and sit at a computer 5 days a week for last 13 years. Average a 4 lbs a week loss and have been able to maintain it ever since. Eat normal know but don't over indulge in fatty or high calorie foods. I'm 35 and one day I plan on actually working out other than chasing kids and yard work.

Slimmer Harley rider

Hi harley rider! Yeah I am about the 275lb mark now after dropping about 13 so far. I am doing about the same thing that you are doing as far as diet except I try to stay away from the bad carbs (potatoes,rice etc). I just eat more fruit and veggies. How long did it take to lose that weight? I am not looking for fast results because that is not the safe way to go. Good to hear it has worked for you. Especially since I also sit at a computer for work. Good to hear from ya!

Cool

3 words: Diets Don't Work

A few rules to live by if you really want to lose and keep the weight off (at least they work for me)

First if you are extremely overweight, check with your doctor before you begin your new way of life..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EATING:
NO FAST FOOD (if you have to, order grilled chicken minus the mayo or chicken salad minus the dressing) no french fries!!!!
If you drink, drink alcohol moderately (beer and alcohol are sure ways to pack on the fat, plus they give that swelled look to your face)
Like others said, make chicken and tuna your best friend.
Eat pleanty of Vegetables and Fruits
Stay away from fried foods.
Stay away from lots of salty foods or snacks (the salt will retain water, plus block your arteries)
Eat 5-6 smaller meals instead of 3 big meals if you can, so your body doesn't get overly hungry. Don't starve yourself at all...
And remember, anything in excess is bad and will store fat.
Rewarding yourself every once in a while with a high calorie high fat meal/dessert will not hurt, just don't start to reward yourself every other day...LOL!
WORKING OUT:
High energy aerobic workout (pick your favorite method) at least 3 days a week of 30 minutes. 4-5 is better yet. (you don't need to push it past this 30 minutes at a time)Unless you are extremely overweight, anymore aerobics will start to eat away at muscle)
Alternate this with weight training 3 times a week. Upper and lower body. Weider.com has a good system for beginners to advanced.
Give your body at least 2 days of rest a week.
GET PLENTY OF SLEEP.
Also, stay away from the scale. Don't focus on how much you weight. This will only frustrate you and possibly cause you to quit. Results will come quick at the start but get harder as you go on. Don't give up at this point. Keep on doing what your doing and it will pay off. It's always tough the first few weeks to get into this routine, but if you stick with it and eat right and get plenty of sleep, you will see results. You don't need any expensive program to get results, just dedication, determination, will power and plain old hard work. Plus, there is no magic pill..PERIOD! Good Luck!
