Dogs riding in the bed?
I have a buddy out in the Bay area who does motocross. Just got out of the hospital...broke both his wrists when he missed a jump.
Hope I don't jinx ya with that little story Jackyl!
I didn't even know motocross was coming to town!

I know a really funny guy named Raoul who lives in Yorktown. You didn't happen to work at a Navy base in VB until recently did you?

The first time we tried it, I should have taken a cab. By the time we got home, we were arguing, me yellin, him growlin. I asked him flat out, who in their right mind ever gave him a license?
But, he didn't say nothin cause he can't talk. Dumb dog.

BlueOx, buy a piece of 1/2" plywood and throw it in the bed. Just make sure it's long enough that it doesn't slide back and forth which prevents pinched pooch foots. Only problem with this is it will probably scratch and wear thru the bed paint.
A better and cheaper solution would be to check with your friendly carpet shop. Most of them give away carpets they remove. Sometimes, you can find decent carpets that would fit in your bed for free! Just take it home, cut it to size. Wash it in the driveway, dry it, and throw it in the bed.

Two words: camper shell!! My dog loves it. I can open the back sliding glass so I can still talk to him. And I can open the side windows on the shell so he can get air. There are screens on the windows so he doesn't get a bug up the nose or whatever. Plus he stays cool because the windows all around are heavily tinted. He still has trouble with traction on the bed surface, because I havn't been able to afford a liner yet. He probably isn't much more safer from traffic accidents, but it is better than nothin. Just my .02
A new law in Michigan prohibits imbeciles from letting kids ride in the bed.

Dennis,
Thanks for the ideas. I think it'll be ok for a while. I am planning on getting some Herculiner this spring.
Jackal,
Yeah, Bear just turned 9 on March 10th. I have read/heard that Aussie's can live up to 14-15 years old. I personally have never had one live that long, but it is possible. I think the average is 12. Bear has the real long butt hair too. I have him shaved down twice a year. Usually once in the spring and late summer early fall. If I don't, there are huge piles of hair everywhere in my house. And I have never been too keen on vacuuming EVERDAY. I would also say that 60 lbs is just a hair over average for the male aussies. Females are much smaller but the males have been known to pack on muscle if excersized regularly. My Bear weighs in around 80 just because we both got lazy and fat. I am trying to get him to go walking with me these days, but he isn't thrilled about it most of the time. And yes, they are extremely inteligent dogs as a whole. Bear isn't the smartest one I have had but he isn't dumb either. I used to have a grey merle aussie named Smoke that could ride on the back of a motorcycle. He was by far the smartest dog I have ever met in my life. I swore sometimes he was part human. He seemed to be able to reason at times. I guess I am rambling. I get that way about my dogs. Take care, Justin.
