PATS Key and remote purchases

Hope this helps someone. FYI.

I just purchased 3 PATS keys and 2 keyless remotes for my 2007 F150 off of Ebay. All for $55.00 shipped. Remotes were slightly used but tested and warrantied.

Ebay Stores were Transponderisland for keys and Midwestkeyless for the remotes with programming instructions.

I called my Ford dealer and they will cut program my keys (only one factory key)and program them for $35.00. I think I can program the remotes. Hope this helps some people.

If you had two working keys, you could program a new key yourself. Any key cutter can cut the key. Yup.. good info.

The remotes are nothing to program.

OK UPDATE

Just got back from my Ford dealer. He cut & programmed my 3 new keys for $40.08 OTD. THAT is cheap. Yes the remotes were a no brainer for me to program.

While we are on this topic, I too purchased a second fob from ebay. When I bought my truck, it came with 2 keys, but only one fob. The extra fob was I think $20, and was easy to program. The problem I have is that the reception is poor with my remote. I initially thought it was the old fob, hence another reason for the purchase of a second, new one. Ever since I got the truck, I have had to be within 10 feet of the truck for the remote to lock/unlock the doors, even with the new fob (with new batteries). Is there any way to increase the range? My '03 F150 could be locked/unlocked from up to 75 feet away........

Not sure what you mean by "look for the box"

Not sure about that. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Another thing I figured out is that one press of the remote unlocks the drivers door only. If you hit the button twice fairly quickly it unlocks the passenger door as well.

This reminds me.... I happen to have an older Fob for a 2001 truck. Do you think it will program for my 2005? Very similar look and a lot of same numbers on the back of it.

Also... I think the instructions say to have one good programed remote with you like the Key says to do. I cannot figure the need for the second remote. I can see the need for the key because you need it to enter the program modes. But there is no such step getting into the Remote program steps. Maybe it is a typo? Or do you have to reprogram your already working remote while doing the second one?

I only got one key with my truck and had heard that Ace Hardware could make me another PATS key much cheaper than the dealer. I got it and it does work. Now that I had two keys, I purchased a blank online, had it cut and then tried to program it with the two keys I have. It appears that the Ace PATS key program just reads your existing key and clones it. This means my truck thinks both keys are the same and I can't program my third key. Any suggestions on how I can get my new PATS key programmed to my truck without going to the dealer?

Ace used a clone key which is a special blank that needs a reader and coding machine to create the clone keys. Only works on 99 to 03 trucks. You could get a locksmith to do it. I got one to do it for $25.

IF he has the right equipment. Otherwise, you could end up with a second clone.
