The Unimog is a great truck, but if they make it into a SUV they're going to ruin it. The article is kinda missleading too. the original Unimogs were out along time before Hummer was even thought of.

The Army Combat Engineers had those back in the the mid '80's. Equiped with a backhoe and blade. Great for digging an infantrymans foxhole and general engineers tasks.

Cool

That would be cool to see the Unimogs made agian. They are one of the greatest 4x4 ever made in my opinion. Take a look at almost any Off road magazine, and you will see them in it. The old ones are suppose to be virtually "un-stopable" going thru what ever they want to....Just as long as they fit!!!!! That is the only drawback to them, is the size. I will still take my Ford or a Jeep over that though.

They are definately different. I was watching the news last night and they had a short clip about them. Had a farmer that has had like 4 of them for almost 15 years. he said he rarely drives them on the street, but when he does, he gets a lot of stares. I think it's kind of neat. They showed it was over a 6 foot step to get into one. They guy stepped on the hub cap, then on the fender, then into the cab. May not look as good as a Hummer, but GM did buy AM General...so it's only a matter of time until it goes "downhill" (no pun intended). Afterall, so far most of Chrysler's innovative ideas lately have been tremendous successes. DaimChrys. expects to sell 300 of them the first year, then increasing to over 1,000 over the next year. Good luck DaimChrys. Hope it works well for you.
