Calling all Engineers....
A really good way to practice your communications skills is right here - on the forums. I for one am a lot more willing to help someone who takes the time to post a well written, grammatically correct, and reasonably spell checked post.
Ah, yes, but can you analyze Shakespeare's use of iambic pentameter or differentiate the rhyme schemes of an Italian sonnet and an English sonnet?

im starting mechanical engineering next year. Everybody has said not to overload with classes, so how many hours should i be taking, and what are some good classes to get done with early?
I got a BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology last year
Now I'm a mechanical designer for bechtel marine propulsion, used to be owned by lockheed martin
Play on pro/engineer all day, make technical drawings, work on multi million dollar projects, make protoype models for various parts and components used on nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers, it's real neat
I thought about being an engineer but I like the technical aspect of it way better than the calculations.

Good luck. It is a pain to have to get back in the mode of studying again after being out of school for 4 years but study as much as possible so that you don't have to take it again. A buddy just passed on his 4th try. He had to worry about the PE for over 2 years.
Sadly yes lol...im still in high school but taking dual credit courses. That iambic pentamenter stuff is just a bunch of made up stuff that is absolutly useless. There is no reason for any of it. Like synedoche, metonomy with are almost the same. Anthromorphism, personification, and reification are alomst the same too. But there all different and my proff flipps out if you can tell the difference. At least with engineering you get something useful out of it that can better the enviroment and make lives easier. What does being able to tell the rhyme scheme of a poem some yahoo wrote 500 years ago.
Maybe some of you have had to take the Miller Analogy Test? Or read Whitman's' "Oh, Captain, My Captain" which is about Lincoln---comparing him to a captain of the ship.
Watch Shrek. Those writers must have had a blast using allusions, metaphors, double entendres, and puns; part of the humor was very juvenile---for the kids---and part of the humor was very adult---for the people paying the way.
But it doesn't matter---one more point, though, imagine how boring our lives would be without the artistic elements found in musical lyrics, novels, movies, and TV shows.
If you have ever enjoyed anything like that, well, it is something more than just useless BS...
