Geocaching

Any of you ever done it? Me and a few friends did some tonight. Its pretty cool and a good way to spend time. Basically it is an object that someone placed hidden. It could be a container, box, or even a actual place. You use GPS cordinates and hints to locate the cache. Its pretty cool. I just used my Garmin tonight becase my handheld needed batteries. Worked pretty good and was a good waste of time. Its pretty funny trying to find the places. The Garmin made it nice getting there because you could type in the cordinates and it would give you streets to get the closest to the object. Then switch the garmin to pedestrian mode/off road mode and it leads you right to the spot. We did it at night and it was kind of difficult. We plan on going back again when its light out and finding some more. If you find the object you can leave something in the cache and sign your name. We found one that was there for at least 3 years.

Go to the left side and click Hide & Seek a Cache. Then just type in your info and search away. They are all over the place.

I've never done anything like that, it sound's like alot of fun. I think it's four wheeler magazine that does something similar to this instead they hide a license plate that say's FOUR WHEELER and hide the coordinate's throughout the magazine and whoever find's the license plate will win part's for their vehicle. I've seen them giveaway shock's,gear's and other goodies.

My sister and brother in law had a geocaching birthday party for my 8 year old neice. They borrowed around 2 dozen hand held GPS's and let everyone who attended use one. Each adult took 3 or 4 kids with them. It was a good time.

Wow, talk about weird, I just did my first one last night...without a GPS

My friend told me about it but when he described one of the places I already knew where it was. But seriously, it is fun!

Yeah its a great way to kill time. And its free. Next time we go out im taking my Garmin, and my Magellan (sp?) handheld actual GPS. That way I can be more precise in locating it. The Garmin gets me close, but just wont zoom in enough to find it easily.

I just got into it before this past winter. As soon as the weather starts warming up aroung here again I plan on finding some more. Think I've found 5 so far and there are lots out there. Pretty good time - especially on a nice weekend.

My brother is into it big time and I have gone with him to find a few and it can be interesting. I know that there are several different options to the caches, some you just sign, some you take/leave stuff and some have items that are on a journey and ask you to move them to a certain place or just move them for the next to find and continue their story. When we traveled to Milwaukee for the HD 105th last year we made several side trips to get him some caches. We even found one at Lambo Field, that was sight to see two guys in KC Chiefs gear at Lambo Field, I was surprised that we made it out of there alive .

We've been geocaching for six years now and have over 3000 finds.

We love the activity (obviously) and it has helped my wife and I lose a lot of weight.

There are actually several threads here on the site regarding caching... I've been doing it now for about 5 years, I think... although, it's been a while since I've really gotten out there and done much... I used to maintain about 5 caches - all were muggled and/or destroyed.
