I wonder how many pirates are on this hostage get away boat?

I wonder if a sniper could take them out? Sounds pretty tough to do on water though, but I know those guy's can do some pretty amazing things.

I was thinking about snipers, as well...but given the roll of the boats and such...I do not know if that would work---I have to plead ignorance on this one (as just about everythng else, too.)

I want to see the video if they can do it!

Blasting a pirate in the head from 500+ yards from boat to boat!!?

I don't know. I know I'm no sniper but I know what it's like trying to shoot a deer at 200 yards in a swaying tree, and it ain't easy!

There are some of you who imply that Obama is a chicken-chit, and because of him, this crisis is not being resolved.
So again, what is it exactly you would have him do to resolve the situation?

Go in there, guns a blazing, kill the hostages and the captain?

For the time being, the situation is
~ Isolated
~ contained &
~ controlled

Waiting it out is the best chance of getting the ship’s captain out alive.

If Obama did ‘give the order’ to have the marines blast away, would you praise him after everyone died in the gun fight?

The truth is, he is in a NO WIN situation, and no matter what happens, some of you will still complain.

I say we negotiate an exchange for the captain, for a safe passage home for the pirates.

Then after the captain is on our ship we escort the pirates home and then blow them up!

I said that last night as well.
Those dirty pirates already reneged on a deal right?
One good renege deserves another.

The pirates might be too smart to believe the free passage deal, but maybe they should tell them they will do six months in jail as their punishment.

Then, you bring them back to the US and stick them inside some crappy Florida prison for 40 years.

It seems the Captain made a swim for it last night. But the Pirates recaptured him.

I believe any US president, whether it be McCain, Obama, Bush, whomever, would take the "hurry up and wait approach." The captain who is the hostage is a civilian---a non-combatant. For his sake and for his familiy's, you owe it him to do as much as one can to get him out of there. That being said, it was reported that after his escape attempt, they have not seen him alive--even asking to show that he is well.

Seriously, though---if that was your dad/husband/brother/son who was the hostage, wouuld you want them to give THE ORDER without any type of intervention attempts? "Sorry, Mr. and Mrs_____, your dad/husband/brother/son (pick one) was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and he needed to be sacrificed for the sake of American policy.

That, I believe, is the absolute last resort.

I do not understand why an unarmed ship is in those waters without an escourt. I do not understand why the pirates have not been blown out of the water before they had a chance to take hostages.

The bad thing is, it's a lot of water to cover. The worse thing is, these shipping companies are continuing to operate too close to the shores of these states.

Quoting CNN last year these pirates ransomed 80-100 million us.

IMO it is a business, The 80-100 million is more than enough to cover the cost of an armed security force ( and an attack copter to mess up the mother ship)on the vessels while they are in the somolia shipping lanes.

When the F-111's bombed Libya, did we kill any US hostages? Give the negotiators a chance, and then let the pirates make our decision for us. In Reagan's case, Qaddafi had the passengers killed, Nobody has died yet. If that happens, "unleash hell."

One Naby Seal should be able to resolve a lot of this situation. Just slip in all stealth like, cut some throats, eventually there won't be enough pirates to worry about.

The thing is, when did we start negotiating with terrorists? These pirates continue to raid these ships because they know people are going to pay up. Perhaps if they had no place to go home to, they'd think different.
