Sorry, as I am not familiar with Michigan gun laws. In Texas, the shotgun can be loaded and carried on a rack. If I was you, I would not carry it in the rear window, even with limo tint. I prefer to keep my stuff out of sight. JMO, take it as you will.

I don't know about the laws in Michigan but do you really want to advertise you have guns? All a burglar has to do is follow you home and he knows what you drive and where you live. You can have the racks in Texas but most Citys do not allow the transport of firearms in an exposed rack.

Don't draw attention to yourself with a gun in plain sight. What about making a rack for your 870 to go behind the back seat?

I Michigan the guns and the ammo can not be in the vehicle with in reach of the driver or passenger and the rifles must be cased. I havent seen a gun rack in a truck here in a long time and when I do its mostly in a contractors truck holding his levels or plans. There is a member on here that is a LEO in Lower Michigan and if he sees this maybe he can shed a little more light on the subject. When ever I am transporting one of my weapons it rides in the cab with me and the ammo is in the bed under the cover.

I used to carry guns all the time in a gun rack, but I keep them in the tool box, or under the back seat now. Like others have said, in this day and age, why advertise your guns, cause there's someone out there who WILL take them, adn trash your truck doing it!

I do have one of those over the seat gun carriers that I keep in my 4Runner, but don't leave them in there unless I'm going to use them.

Here's your answer:

"In order to transport or possess rifles and shotguns in a motor vehicle, Michigan law requires that they be unloaded and be one or more of the following: broken down, enclosed in a case, carried in the trunk of the vehicle, or inaccessible from the interior of the vehicle"

In other words, you can have it on a gun rack in your window, but it must be in a case or broken down.

However, riding around with a gun in your window is asking for trouble....from the police and everyone else.

If you were to put it in your back window in plain sight, put a sticker on it that says "steal me".I would not put any gun in plain view of a thief. They will just follow you around waiting for there chance to steal it.
