My boss has an F250 Diesel which he and everyone who owns one says is awesome. I believe there is a similar site to this one for the diesels out there that you should check out.
The Ford Diesel gets around 18 mpg on the highway and has more power and torque than any of the gas engines you can get, with the possible exception of the V10. Suggest you look into them. I think this site has some info, but I think the diesel site would be better...
Just my two cents...

Mopar, I came over from the Dodge side. Sold my Ramcharger for my F150 s/c longbed. Little bit harder to park but I am happy with the ride, reliability, and better fuel mileage. Besides you won't find a better site than this one to share and gain info, vent frustrations or just have fun. Good luck in your search.

Mopar man,
If your refering to the Supercrew (4door half-ton), the answer is yes! My Screw is rated to tow up to 8000lbs. It tows my tent-camper (2900lbs) and about 600-1000lbs of firewood, and the remainder of my camping stuff with no trouble at all!! 2wd with the 5.4l motor tows 8k, 4x4 same motor comes in at 7500.
