New Chevy commercial
Anyone see the new commercial where a 18 wheeler is broken down and the side of the road and a chevy (explorer look alike) pulls up and offers some help? He then proceeds to look under bumper to give the guise that he is going to pull this big truck. The commercial never says that is what he plans to do but gives that impression so it's not really false advertising.
I say we call Chevy to the board on this and tell them to prove that their little crapper can pull the load since that is what they want all their potential buyer's to believe!

I met a guy who said he did just that to a 18wheeler fully loaded that ran out of fuel about a mile away from the Truck stop.
(um, now I am thinking, how easy can it be to start a diesel that has run completely out of fuel?)
But his was a lifted, beefed (400 ponys to the ground) and geared, 4WD, so it might be true.
He goes by the name "HighTech Redneck"
I dunno, maybe the beer I drank during the hockey game....

I think he's full of S*!T. Ok lets look at it this way, lets go on the extreme and say he has an F-350, fully loaded, biggest diesel engine, geared down as low as he can get. Lets say that brings his towing capacity to 40,000 pounds on top of the weight of the vehicle. (It wouldn't but I'm estimating over the actual just to prove a point). I'm guessing the cab itself of a cemi is going to weight at least 25,000-30,000 pounds. Add in a trailer that probably weighs 8,000 pounds EMPTY, then add in a full cargo which unless its pillows, is also going to be into lets say 30,000 pounds. He'd be doing some major damage, and I think hes full of it
. Maybe if it was down a steep hill...

What about the one with the new chev HD that pulls a tug boat ashore. Then he says " that's a fixer upper". Was he talking about the boat or the truck after it tore its guts out pulling the boat?
As for being able to pull a loaded semi, it can be done. You would need some serious traction though. After doing it an automatic would probably need a rebuild and a manual would need a new clutch. The frame might be a ½ an inch longer too. I personally would have driven to the gas station and brought back some fuel. A lot safer and easier don't you think?

That vehicle is a Chevy Tracker (aka Suzuki) with a whopping 150HP and 160lb/ft of torque from a 2.5L V-6. The vehicle is so great that I heard they are discontiniung it after the '02 model.
From Chevy's site:
Introducing the new and powerful 2.5L V6 engine standard on the Tracker LT and ZR2. (Four-Door models only) Built for those who enjoy more power, the V6 generates 155 horsepower and 160 lbs.-ft. of torque for maximum performance output - V6 engines aren’t even offered in Toyota RAV4 or the Honda CR-V.(1) That’s enough power to pull a trailer of dirt bikes for an afternoon of mud-slinging fun. So along with bragging rights, the new V6 adds an entirely different dimension to the Chevy Tracker lineup.

That picture doesn't look real to me. Oh well, it's just as realistic as the Blazer on top of the Lighthouse. I like the new Superduty commercials with the train horn blaring in the background. Man I'd love to have one of those.

As for the Chevy commercial, you might notice the small print at the bottom of the screen. It says,"Of course, a Chevy Tracker cannot pull a 18 wheeler, do not attempt this," or something like that. Those Chevy commercials always stretch the limit.

I dont know if anyone remembers this one, but a few years back Chevy was advertising these "flexible" grills that supposedly made them impervious to loading docks.. remember that one?? well, only a chevy guy would pull up to a loading dock nose first.. must have been gettin a pallet of fertilizer loaded on his hood or something.. Those chevy guys are FORDS best advertising..

Chevy is running an ad (at least here in PR) on those new... I think Sierras in yellow. I like the color.
On the other hand, even though we have the best truck in the market I think all the marketing departments in every company out there will exagerate from time to time.
I don't know if this was a local ad but a couple of years ago Ford was running one where an F150 was pulling a ship(the size of the Titanic) from under the water to the shore. Sure...
I got my truck because of the real and practical characteristics that make it the best truck, not because of their promotions. Usually most of them looks like jokes (even Ford)and our trucks are not a joke.
But once in a while those ads entertain.

Got to tell ya, man! If that thing is a Suzuki Grand Vitara it is still pretty good off-road! I went out with some vehicle testers and that day they had a Subaru Forester, Suzuki and the Mercedies (can't spell Mercedies, can't afford it either). The Suzuki went into places the Merc couldn't! I would buy one as a daily driver or something... not so bad!
The commercial says "You really don't think the Tracker can pull THAT, do you?"

That's because you know that thing would've got stuck at the first pothole! So they had to take a Ford out to get the family and the crew out, take the picture, then digitally replace the ford with that... <shudder> thing...

Actually, the Tracker commercial states in fine ...verry fine print:
"Can the Tracker tow a semi? Naw, check the owner's manual"
Look for it about half way through at the bottom. I wonder whether or not the POS even has enough torque to drop the tranny....

I seen an add in a magazine they had a little Mazda rag top look like it was pulling a 2 story house down the road I think it was for some kind of motor oil talk about strecting the limit.
