Go to http://www.qualitycareservice.com/6000.asp for Ford's ESP plan. I was quoted $810 with a $0 deductable for a 3 yr/40,000 miles warranty.

If you have the $1875 to spend take it and invest it. If your truck need repairs pay for them from that initial $1875. I'd bet that in the 4 years or 75k you'll have plenty of money left. In some cases the extended warrenty may be of value, but for the vast majority of applications it is a scam.

After what happened to my wife's Contour I am not taking any chances. She had a '96 Contour SE V6 with just over 30,000 miles on it that was only 6 months out of warranty. Her timing "slipped" (actual technical term from Ford) and bent the valves, ruined pistons, etc. Long story short...we paid over $3700 out of our pocket!!! (new engine, etc...)

I think I will pay $800 for a three year warranty with a $0 deductable from Ford. At least my mind will be at ease.

It will only take a couple of "minor" repairs to pay for itself.

I know most people have not had many major problems at all with their Fords and I feel a lot more comfortable that my truck will not have any major problems but just in case I will be covered.

I will get off my soapbox now.

Hey DonW,
Warranties are good, but the problem is that dealers always make a killing on them. They "usually" pay 50% of what they're charging you for the warranty. The price they quoted you seems a bit much, of coarse. I would offer approx. 70% ($1326) of that price and see how they respond. Almost everything at a dealership is negotiable. If they don't budge, I would suggest going on the internet and look up companies that specialize in aftermarket warranties. I'm pretty sure you'll find a good deal that's cheaper for you. They usually have different plans... 2yr.to 5yr. warranties you can buy through them. Having a warranty is always a good idea. It's just a matter of a little time and research. Shop around and I'm sure you'll find a great deal. I would suggest going to a search engine and type in warranties or automotive warranties and it should list quite a few. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
