Wrecked my '99 F-150
So I'm driving down a rainy highway minding my own business, when the right rear end of my custom built F-150 comes swinging around. Yep...I was going about 50 on a 4 lane highway and hydroplaned. Fortunately, no other cars were involved and I was not injured. Me and the truck ended up on top of the concrete divider. $5300 in damage. The repair shop did a GREAT job, and I am again a happy commuter (That little Toyota Corolla rental got old real fast!).
Questions:
1) Has anyone experienced spontaneous spin-outs?
2) Doesn't Ford make something that will weight down the back end?
3) If so, would it help??
Specs:
99 S/C Flareside
4.6 V8
Auto
LS rear end
Towing package/HD suspension
All factory - no mods.

My diesel is just as likely to come around as your truck. Although it's not as bad now as when I was driving my old F150. If you're consistantly having to drive on roads that you think there's gonna be a problem (or winter/snow/ice type roads) then I would suggest that you add some sand bags in the rear. Try to fix them somehow so that they are right over the axle and wont move forward when braking. Glad to hear you weren't hurt in your accident.

They are stock original Goodyear Wrangler AT's with 22,000 miles. I have religiously rotated all 4 tires (back to front/cross front to back) every 6000 miles. The tires are in great shape.
Thanks...

Hey TexasDude, Glad to hear you were not hurt, and you are happy with the repair job. My buddy had the same thing happen to him about a week ago, but in a Ford Ranger, he can't figure out what caused him to spin. On a completely different subject, I read a post that I think you wrote awhile back, about a popping sound coming from the exhaust. My truck makes the same sound you described in that post. I was wondering if you ever found out what was causing the sound, or if it went away. Thanks.

Here is a factor in your equation:
The harder the rubber on the tires, the longer they will last, BUT the traction will SUCK. Go with a softer, stickier tire and they will not last as long but YOU will!
Those stock goodyears are garbage! I tried to wear mine out legitimately and couldn't do it. They just don't wear out. They do not stick to the road either. I finnally replaced them with pirrelli Scorpian Zero's for summer and Bridgestone Dualers for winter.

I to agree with ATST. The good years suck.
i want to get some tires with a meaner look and more adgressive tread.
