Getting a Wii

I know, I'm a little behind the curve on this and a few years behind. BUT, the wife and I decided (thanks to our very nice tax refund that in addition to paying off some CC bills that we'd "splurge" and get a Wii for the family. Now that my oldest is gonna be 5, I'm thinking she should have something like this for 'rainy days'. That and daddy likey the shooter games!

The only thing that troubles me though is this. We have a rec room w/a 32" tv, and naturally, something like this should go in the rec room. BUT, I'm feeling the play would be much better on the 42" in the living room. Only issue is I remember hearing horror stories of remotes flying thru flat screens/windows/etc.

Have they "upgraded" the tether straps or were these isolated incidents with over zealous idiots?

Thanks for the input.

Weve had one for about 1-1/2 years now and never had a problem with a remote flying off. I believe those stories are from people not wearing the strap or a chid having a temper tantrem and slinging it. My buddy has a 7yr old and he plays the Wii often and he is all over the place and crazy and the remote never leaves his hand. As long as you hold the remote like your supose to nothing will happen. Hell even my drunk buddies can handle it, if they can I know yall will have no problem.

We love our WII, ours ended up in the living room instead of the den also. Never a problem with the strap. We just bought Rockband 2 and the 4 of us have spent the last 2 weeks 'shredding'. What a blast! Buy it and don't worry about the strap issue.

We have all three systems and I can say that the Wii never gets played, every blue moon someone will turn it on, I have even unplugged it because it never gets used. I would suggest getting a PS3 or 360, there are still plenty of children's games and plenty of adult games and the graphics and game play is much better. The Xbox 360 gets the most play in the house. Now I am not one to play, I usually go back and watch them play, but I have been messing around with NHL 09 and NBA 08 and been having a blast with the kids..Just a opinion..

If daddy likes shooters, and he can stand a LOT of REALLY foul language:

You really should try this game......but only when the kiddo's and easily offended people are NOT around.

If you like shooters, get a PS3. The only shooter worth a damn on the Wii is that newish zombie game. I really don't care for the rest of the Wii. I haven't heard anything of wii remotes flying off people hands, but keep them away from glass. I had some friends over that broke a glass piece of mine playing wii bowling, and it shattered everywhere

Wii isn't bad, it's really fun, and you can even get WiiFit, and that's ftw.
Had one for years now, and haven't had an issue with the Wiimotes flying off as long as the straps are secure.
Star Wars; The Force Unleashed lets you use your Wiimote as a lightsaber, and it doesn't get much better than that. I say go for it!
Cashel, that's why you should always use plastic pieces when company is over, glass is overrated.

we have had our wii for about a year now, you deff. gotta hook it up to the 42" flatscreen! Got ours hooked up to the 42" plasma and it rocks! No problems with the wrist strap but my 7 year old does get a little close to the t.v. sometimes and i gotta tell her to back up. All and all its a good family system but not for serious gaming!

Yeah our Wii hasn't been turned on since we got the 360. Graphics, game selection and online play is so much better.
