My iPhone is used for pleasure. I don't need a smartphone for business. I can check e-mails, take pictures, listen to music, use GPS, surf the web better, faster, and easier than anything else I've tried. It's countless, the things you can do with an iPhone. I've tried quite a few other smartphone's out there, and the iPhone beats them all, hands down, for my purposes.
Surfing on any other phone, quite frankly, is a joke in comparison to the iPhone, imho.

That's why most people buy the iPhone, although it is gaining popularity with business crowd as well.

The only reason they've sold so much is because there weren't many to go around so everyone thought they were great since didn't even have any. Hell the iphone was one of the last phones to get 3G...some r&d department they have. I disagree when people call it a smart phone cause it's not, it's a multimedia phone and it does that very good but a smart phone it is not! iphone will never be a serious contender for a smart phone because it is a toy, you play games on toys, you listen to music on toys but you don't to business that way. Apple computers are a good example cause their all multimedia machines meant for users who aren't savy in the electronics world. Granted their hassle free and easy to use but their not work horses like windows pc's are. You can barely upgrade if at all and their geared towards the old since their not computer smart and geared towards the young since their brain washed by MTV and reality shows. Sounds kind of like the iphone.
Well considering apple has only dived into the cell phone market 2 years ago I think they are doing a hell of a job. As for window's Mobile, HA HA anything with the word Microsoft in the same sentence will give you problems... With this new software update coming out the iphone will do everything any other smartphone can do and more...

FAIL. Windoze mobile is far from the BEST phone OS, but it is more powerful than the iJoke 'fo 'sho. Everyone knows 'berrys are the best smartphones... though Symbian phones dominate the market. As far as the iJoke doing "everything any other smartphone can do and more" with the next update... that's a HUGE ROTFOMGLOLBBQ!!! The correct statement is "with the next updating coming out the iPhone will FINALLY be able to do almost all the things that every other smartphone has been able to do for the last 10 years".

Bingo. 2 years, and this much growth/market share is phenomenal. I don't have an iPhone (yet), but do use an iPod touch on a regular basis. As for mobile browsing, I've seen/used the Opera browser, and I think that some of you folks are delusional for thinking that it is the "end all/be all" of mobile browsing. Mobile Safari isn't perfect either, but it's light years ahead of Opera.

As far as the iPhone not getting things that other phones have had for years, I see that as Apple making sure that everything is right. They don't just throw things in (hardware) or on (software) their products just to tout that they have "X" and "Y" on their device. They are constantly working to optimize through updates. I'm glad they take this approach.

What, specifically, is the iPhone lacking that the beloved 'berry, Symbian, or Windoze Mobile OS phones have?

I love my iPhone as my personal phone. being able to carry movies, music and pics. along with movie rentals when I travel is awesome.. and I love the games and the visual voicemail

but if I had to use it as my work phone, and actually had to do business on it everyday, I would kill someone. My first blackberry from 7 years ago did more than my current iPhone does..

It is an entertainment device, and a very good one .. My old Razr was a better smartphone than my iPhone is ..

if you want an entertaining phone .. you will like the iPhone ..

if you need to function for work on your phone, there are 100 better choices.

with the current version...

No selecting of text
No copy/paste
No MMS
No video recording
No expandable memory
No replaceable battery
No corporate functionality/security
No real push e-mail
No wireless syncing (BT or Wifi), limited OTA as well
No video conferencing (Not that big of a deal, but many phones do have this and it is hella-cool)
No multi-tasking or background notifications
No voice recognition (RIM has got this DOWN, and it rocks)
No Bluetooth audio***
No camera flash
No teathering to laptop for data
No flash support, limited Java support in browser

It's just a shiney d*ck to hold up to your face... seriously.

EDIT: *** With my bad-**** new F150, my BB Bold syncs up to the truck and I can stream music without plugging anything in... hella cool feature. For the iJoke being such a media-centric device I can't belive it doesn't have simple BT A2DP functionality.

Yeah, and those were all deal breakers for me

BTW, I was under the impression there is an app that will allow you to teather, and video record. My phone isn't even jailbroken.

What a great ****.

You almost sound as if you're jealous of the iPhone. ***** envy perhaps?

You need a jailbroken iJoke to do those things. No out-of-the-box functionality. Plus you violate the TOS doing it.

Far from jealous. Like all other Apple products the iJoke is a limited device that has a great marketing campaign and sold to droves of latte drinking hippies that have been brainwashed into thinking its the best thing since hasheesh. As I stated before, it's not a bad device. But it is FAR from a solid smartphone. So many better devices out there.

I'm sure there are far better phone's out there now, but I'm also sure apple is working on changing that. And in the near future they will reveal what they come up with.. Show me another phone that has the versatility of the iphone with the app store.. I do know that there are a lot of stupid apps in there but there are many worth there weight in gold... There are many useful apps for medical professional's.. Everybody has there own opinion on what phone might be best but it boils down to personal choice and which one works better for them....
