Post What's the Holdup!!

OK, I ordered my 2001 F150 Lariat 4x4 ext. cab short bed 5.4L #7700 Payload option (same as a F250 light duty) on June 29th. As of today, September 14, the truck STILL hasn't even started production. It takes 3 weeks once Ford starts to build the truck until the time the dealer receives the truck. That means if the truck started being built today, total time from order to delivery would be almost 14 weeks!!!

Does anyone know WHAT THE HELL is going on at Ford???

MAybe because yours is a #7700 pay load package they are batching them. Your dealer should be able to tell you what is going on, mine kept me updated every week. Good Luck, hope youget it soon.

I also have a 2001 ordered. I actually ordered it back in early July but made some changes on 8/11. I spoke with the dealer this morning and he said I have an ETA of 10/23. That is 10 weeks from 8/11. I had hoped to get it sooner but I guess I can wait.

Placed my order for a black sport 4x4 4.6 sc, flareside on 9/7. One week down and forever and a day to go. You guys are discouraging me. Only upside is that the new ford factory incentive period begins 10/2. Maybe there will be rebates or special financing rates.

JDF,

Let me just tell you.......With the amount of chaos I am about to start at Ford, they will special incentive my a$$ to death to get me out of their hair.....I promise you that!!!!

RED,

My dealer is keeping in touch with me. He said they do batch them together with the 7700# payload option. He also told me today Ford told him they are short of engines and this is the reason for the delay. I did some research on BlueOvalNews.com and found out the tranny may be the holdup. Ford is always pinching a penny at the customers expense. For 2001, Ford used a mechanical diode in the 4r100 tranny that saved them $4 per tranny over the 2000 model. They found that under certain circumstances, this diode cause tranny failure. So they stopped production to revert back to the 2000 specs for the tranny.

Just my luck....I waited til 2001 to order my new truck because it is 4 years after they changed body styles....usually when all the bugs get worked out. And now these idiot engineers are trying to re-invent the damn wheel on my truck. GAWD I'm getting pissed just thinking about this!!!!!

Yep its that Tranny Diode thing thats the hold up. It is said to be causing a two week delay per truck.

JDF, your 4.6L should not be affected as it the 4R100 tranny that is involved.

Something else you can check is your DORA (You all did get a copy of it, RIGHT???) On about the third line down will be a priority number. If it's a 10 then you're up near the front of the line (at that dealership) for having your truck made. 12 is not to bad. But anything higher and your truck order is at the rear of the line.

JDF, There is only one auto choice in the 4.6L, that being the 4R70W. Some models of 5.4L's get the 4R100(again not a choice). It is the 4R100's that have the bad Diode starting the 2001 Model year build.

My dealer tried to prep me for delay's because he had experienced late order on Y2K models near the end of the model run who wanted the 4.6. I mentioned to him my assumption on 4.6 delay's was probably because of the upgraded engine in the 2001 engine and that FORD was being careful not to overorder the old engine and have to put them into the 2001 model that should have the new engine. His response, Huuuuh?
BTW, to late now but there are two different transmissions? I'm not a real hard core truck guy like most of you but I enjoy this message board and have learned alot. My new truck will be a "weekend vehicle". I drive a Lincoln Mark VIII on a daily basis. Couldn't be more difference in two vehicles.

JDF: Hey, I didn't know what a DORA was either until I started reading this board
DORA stands for: Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement
When the dealer puts in your order to Ford, Ford will send it back to the dealer acknowledging that they got the order. On it will be ALL the stats for Your truck. You should check it to make sure you're getting all the options ect that you wanted and not getting something you didn't want. Mine also has the invoice prices and MSRP prices. Sometimes a dealer will black out the invoice prices so you can't see them. Pitch a royal fit if they do that to you. Plus check out www.kbb.com to compair with the invoice prices. I had my DORA the day I ordered my truck. One of the things I made sure of when I ordered was if my dealer had the allocations to be able to order the truck. If they didn't, then I found another dealer. Lucky for me, my dealer had allocations and that lead to my priority 10 on the DORA. Hopefully I haven't totally confused you

Just got the DORA from my dealer. I ordered it on 9/7 and the scheduled build date is 10/2! Priority rating was 01! Dealer told me that because they just purchased this franchise location from a retiring owner and the fact that they now have 3 FORD dealerships (not to mention other franchises, DODGE, GM etc.) means they are giving him priority status based on volume.
Sorry Boss96Hog
