Question 2001 F-150 changes?

Does anyone know if the 2001's will have any changes from the 99's? I know the 2000's had the overhead console, is that it?

Unhappy

The little cubby hole in the dash by your right knee is gone. I think they removed it in '00.
In comparison to the door pockets, glove box, behind the seat box and between the seats console box, I use that cubby more, for anything and everything.

If I bought a '00 or newer, I'd also have to start buying shirts with pockets.

Thumbs up

2001 preview?: I just picked up a new 2000 XLT yesterday (build of 7/00) and it has all of the 2001 changes listed (except lighted vanity mirrors). Also, (not sure how long some of these additions have been out for the 2000s..my October build 2000 - *with bad factory paint* - did not have these):

It has a different center console with 2 cup holders (one large, one small) and it is much smaller overall (same one in the Supercrew??). FORD added a "mini seat back" under the center console for the 60/40 bench seats..so stuff will not slide into the rear of the cab (nice!). There is a heat shield under the hood now and a smaller heat shield behind the engine on the firewall. The front floor mats have a nice "F-series " logo embroidered in them. The tie down rings in the bed are completely different. The truck is a Low Emission Vehicle (LEV). There is no power loss and my wife said it runs quieter than my other 2000.

Nice additions. I am sure there are other small changes...but this is what I have noticed in the short time I have had it.

------------------
2000 F-150 XLT, 4x2, 5.4L Supercab, LEV, Superchip, Styleside, Black with silver two-tone, 3.55 rear, class III towing package with heavy duty cooling package, Heavy duty shocks, 4 wheel disk ABS, overhead console, sliding rear window, keyless entry, dark graphite interior, in dash CD, factory leather wrapped steering wheel, FORD bedliner, K&N air filter, rubberized undercoating (soon), cabin filtration system - not yet installed, Bugflector II, Build date 7/00

It's by your right knee, just to the lower, right-hand side of the steering wheel.

Cool

The 2000's don't have the cubby hole. Mine was an October build and does not have it.

Question

Something I should have asked on the assembly plant tour and didn't. They had just had they're two week vacation in July and came back ready to start making the '01 model. I saw crates of Windsor motors with build dates of 5/18 and 6/8 (4 motors to a crate). How does this come into play when the 4.6L is supposed to be bumped up 20hp in the '01 model? Do the late built '00's get the extra 20 or do early 01's do without or is there a mix bag?

To be honest, I don't know if I was looking at 4.6's or 5.4's.

I checked out a whole row of new F-150s on a dealer lot yesterday and guess what? I found some 2000 model XLs and XLTs with the new centre console (the smaller one with the flap), and I found a few 2000 XLTs with the leather steering wheel. (I'm crying here. I'd love to have that on MY 2000.)

I was surprised to find some 2001 models already. But two of the 2001 XLT SuperCrews didn't have the leather steering wheel. Figure that!

I think you'd better look carefully at what you are getting if you are buying around this time, and don't assume.

------------------
Black 2000 SC short-box XLT. 4.2V-6, 5-speed, 3.55 limited-slip. CD, remote entry, factory side steps, FORD box liner.

My third F-series: '73 F-100 Custom 240-cube 3-speed, '98 F-150 XL-SC 4.2 5-speed, and '00 F-150 XLT-SC 4.2 5-speed. GREAT trucks!

Cool

"Shifter",
My Ford Truck Accessories catalog shows you can get the leather wrapped steering wheel from your dealer's parts dept.

"Jackal",
The leather wrapped wheel was added to the "Sport Package" for 2000, mine was an Oct 99 build and has it.

The factory leather steering wheel is about $125.00 if I am not mistaken. And yes..look closely if you are buying a 2000 right now..there are some differences.
