Computer issues
Hello everyone,
I'm currently having a weird problem with my laptop (Windows XP sp2) When I boot my computer up it boots like normal. Then when I get to the home screen my task bar and Icons disappear. On occasion my wallpaper will turn to a black back ground and say something about a virus, however 75% of the time it just goes to my normal back ground and all my icons and task bar disappear. They will occasionally flicker back on, but when I try to click start it will disappear.
It's quite aggravating.
Well I did some research and it seems like I have some adware on my computer called Adware.Dynamic or sysu.exe.
The instructions for repairing the computer tell me to go into the task manager and stop the process "sysu.exe"
Now we have another problem... When I hit ctrl+alt+delete It tells me task manager has been disabled by the admin... Which is me... I'm the only account on the computer.
Any advice? Tips? Tricks? Something? If I can find a way to get into the task manager It seems fairly easy to correct this problem. Is there another way besides ctrl+alt+delete?
Thanks in advance for any help

I would if I had any icons to click on. I can't run anything other than HP helpdesk.
Can you get to the Start menu and choose Run..?
If so, then copy this into the text box and click OK. This should enable the task manager.
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrenVersion\Poli cies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
--Not sure why it is putting a space between the i and c in Policies but there shouldn't be one. I didn't type it that way.

Can you do it in safe mode? Obviously you have internet access (another computer?), so you may have to download, burn and install in safe mode.
Here's how to get your icons and task bar back, hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, then click the File drop down menu and click New Task (Run...) or whatever yours says and type in explorer.exe and hit enter.
After you've done that go to www.malwarebytes.org then download and run the in depth scan and it'll solve your problem.

The best place to start may be to figure out what downloaded program/ or game was downloaded, and a user agreement signed to use it. Those are the types of programs that contain the adware.
Can you get a dos prompt from in safe mode, or step by step boot?
Do you know how to navigate DOS?

Ctr/Alt/Del will bring up the task manager which he says is disabled. He probably can't use the Run command either since he said his taskbar is gone.
Best bet is try booting to Safe Mode with networking and go from there.
If there's nothing extremely important on it and you don't want to waste time just boot to a xp disk and format/re-install. Personally I would work all night and then some getting it cleaned up opposed to formatting.

When I have a problem with ad ware, I find out which program contains it . Then in Dos I rename the directory that contains it. Then on boot up, when I get Cab or Dll file errors, I make another directory by that name and put the error files there until it will boot. I then uninstall the program from the program manager. It works for me most of the time, but you have to be comfortable and understand dos.
He didn't disable it. The assumption is the spyware/adware/whateverware disabled it. I think he stated that in his first post.
He needs to try safe mode... just start your computer and keep smashing F6 or whatever key it is.
FWIW, I've had much better luck with A Squared Free than Malwarebytes. Malware doesn't find anything but A Sq. found 4 trojans and a keylogger. One of the keys to making these things work is keeping them updated. The down side to A Squared Free is that it takes it about 2 hours to do a deep scan on my dual core. I think it does a much better job than Malware but it takes a long time for it to run. Hope you can get it back up with out a lot of issues.

Damn technology...
I booted into safe mode with networking, however my task bar and icons are still missing. I'm able to get to task manager but I can't seem to find the program I'm supposed to be looking for. I tried running explorer.exe and my icons and start menu popped up, then disappeared... WTF...
Here is the list of processes that I have when running in safe mode, anything seem out of the ordinary?

I managed to get firefox up in safemode. After downloading and installing Asquared I get a message "Invalid Floating Point Operation"
WTF....is an invalid floating point operation?
ETA: I get the same error message when I try to install malwarebytes.
