Need for a gun?
If someone breaks into your house carrying numb-chucks.....DON'T SHOOT!
hey pardner, MT is pretty safe yet. its a little different out here. but bring your six gun and ride hard because the caves are getting crowded. haha jk
With the new government "ruling" us, my paranoid state is way up.
I already have an AR-15 but am thinking about purchasing 4 more just in case SHTF and some friends need them or if a gun ban, they will be worth $$$.
I could also use a home defense shotgun and a conceal carry weapon.

Along this line, if you are thinking about purchasing a gun of any type, NOW would probably be the time to do it. Who knows what kind of lamea$$ laws are going to be brought up now, making purchasing a gun, and or ammo, more paperwork etc than buying a house? It might not even be legal before long to purchase any. There are already talks/rumors about taxing ammo some unGodly amount so that law-abiding citizens can't afford it, only the criminals.
It would be better to have one and not need it, than to wish you had bought one, "Back then" when you still could...

Like the old saying goes "Its better to have a gun and not need it then to need a gun and not have it"
Amendment #2 forever
Guns are not bad to have at all. People who use them in the wrong ways are what make them dangerous.
If I were or any of you (I'm sure you all are responsible people) had a gun, it wouldn't be a big deal at all.
Just like carrying a knife... you can pretty much do a much damage to someone as having a gun at close range. But has my knife hurt anyone? No. That's because I'm responsible and know better.
Guns and knives are safe in my opinion IF used by normal people.

Personally a 12 guage benelli nova pump shotgun sits behind my door loaded with double 00 (ott) buck shot and 3 1/2 shells ready and waiting.
I feel as if shotguns are more capable of protecting you than a pistol or rifle because with a pistol accuracy is key! If you dont have a good shot even close range on an intruder might not have the outcome you want. A rifle is going to have a long barrel which can be seen if you were to come around a corner looking for your intruder which would give yourself away. Now a shotguns is perfect becuase its got some fire power you can have a legal barrel length of 11 inches but that makes your shotgun a class 3 weapon which means you are gonna have more taxes and more restrictions on the gun. 13 inch is the true legal length to still consider it a class 2. With a shotgun home defender style they carry no choke which can hold around 6+1 which will be plenty of shots. 98% of intruders will turn and get the heck out of your house once hearing you **** your pump shotgun!
Now if you want a pistol that will do some major damage and most likely drop a robber dead in his tracks you need to get a Taurus Judge!! Its a snub nose revovler that holds .410 shells in 4 or 6 shot slugs and the great one 000 shot or .45 Colt long shells!! If you were to have alternating .410 and .45 long shells you would be unstoppable. Great gun for home defense or in the car.

The only problem with a shotgun is the length. They are hard to conceal in the cushions of your couch. Now that you have it, where do you keep it for ready access?
I like .357 magnum revolvers. They will accept .38 ammo for practice. This cuts down on the cost and is a little easier on your shoulder. It also makes it easier to get your wife to practice with it. My wife loves to shoot the Ruger GP100 with .38 ammo in it.
If you get a shotgun, I would recommend the Mossberg or Remington 870. The Mossberg is under $300 in my area, the Remington is about $350.
The revolver in Ruger or Smith and Wesson is pushing $500 new.
I do not recommend semi-auto pistols unless someone is going to put a lot of range time in. A previous poster mentioned that semi autos have failed because a novice shooter forgot to chamber a round. I am sure this is a true statement.
If I have the time, I do keep 12 gauge OO for my Beretta over/under. But gosh, the gun is just too pretty to have to surrender for evidence ;-).
Good luck.

Noone should "hide" guns under the cushions of their couches or anywhere else for that matter. When you are not home guns should be locked up in a safe or at the very least have a trigger safety lock on it. It's bad enough to come home to someone robbing your house, it's even worse to get shot with your own gun!
