You'd think that submarines colliding would be a rare thing- not so, apparently.

Seems there are lots of them we don't hear about. And just because a submarine has all kinds of sophisticated equipment on board doesn't mean it's up and running. All of the systems on these subs require maintenance and calibration which equates to down time. Remember, the military buys and pays the absolute most for the cheapest equipment possible. That holds true for any nations military.

When we get attacked by Giant Squid, Godzilla, or Gamara, we will soon know if there was any radioactive leak!...........

Probably going fairly slow, 10 knots or so. not a lot of speed, but a lot of mass to make a crunch.
The only thing on Hunt for Red October that is totally accurate is the toilet paper roll hanging above the Sonar screen ..

everything else in that movie has been subjected to hollywood's dramatic license.

Entertaining movie .. but far from factual. although it is more accurate than Crimson Tide.

Human error .. People screw up, they make bad decisions. crap happens ..

I can understand a submarine hiding from sonar in the wake of another sub. But a sonar picks up the distinctive sound of propellers turning, doesn't it?

depending on how quiet the sub is, specifically the powerplant, it can be very difficult to hear it.

our boomers are impossible to find, even for us, if they don't want to be found.

if the boat is moving slowly, and there is not power plant noise, and the screw isn't cavitating, it can be very difficult to hear the boat.

Haha.. People yelling conspiracy already.

Subs are meant to be undetectable. And Subs of all nations travel the same routes in the ocean waters.

Im just glad to know that its not only US subs sneaking around the worlds oceans, loaded to the nines with nuclear weapons.
