No no no, it's not supposed to be this way. All the people who went out and bought luxury SUV's to keep up with their neighbors are the ones who should be bailing first! Keep your truck. Wait a month. It'll be better. Besides, think about this. Everytime you're on the road driving that little econobox, and you pull up next to an F150. What feelings are going to be going through your head? Not good ones, I'm sure.

Cool

Get used to it. Every couple of months he's threatening to jump and we have to talk him down.

I feel your pain . . . I almost traded mine in on a Civic Hatchback to save the money . . . then I snapped out of it. If I read your post correctly, you have a 97 as do I.

The financial gain in trading off to a newer vehicle is not that great, especially considering the extra payments you will have to make. You'll still be making payments on that ZX-2 while at the same time your F-150 would've been paid off !!! The only person winning this battle will be the dealer. They turn around and sell your truck for the same price you paid for the ZX-2 . . . mark my word. The only reason you would actually win is if you WANTED a new car . . . and we know you don't. Look at the long term cash flows and not just your gas bill.

Yes I was in the same boat as you. Then I figured out . . . it would be hard to drive a Civic through a 20 foot mud hole to get to my favourite fishing spot.

Long live the F-150 !!!!!!!

Angry Oh no feel like Doing it again

Man I got to get a grip! I love my truck and all, off-roading is great etc... But I really fear gas prices! The rise in gas prices are reducing the value of our trucks and frankly I think my truck will be rendered usless for the average (non-commercial) application.

I called a dealership today and I have set up a meeting to trade in my truck for a ZX2 or a Ford Focus. I am willing to loose up to 4000 dollars for my truck, I don't care anymore! It costs me that per year in fuel now anyway! So I may be bailing out of the Ford truck ownership clan, it was a fun ride but I (we all) have a responsability for the environment and our wallet! For the time it will take to pay for my truck, it would have cost me 20,000 dollars in gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That in its own is a cool little ZX2 which is a great little car!! I plan on getting a rare s/r edition with lowered suspension, aftermarket clutch, shifter, airraid etc.. Kinda like a SVT car

Well I will let you know if it works out, I hope it does, but I won't want to loose 5000 plus dollars or end up paying 500 dollars per month for a car thats worth 200...

Later dudes and dudettes!
eph1fifty, maybe will be ZX2boy

I drive a '92 Mazda Protege to work and run erands. It saves wear and tear on the truck and fuel. And it makes me urn for the truck on weekends.

Eph1fifty,

Big trucks equate to large gas appetites. Some things in life you gotta just suck up. What Cougar Guy said is extemely true, you'll lose in the long run, and there's no turning back if you go through with your current mood. Keep your truck.....

Three words: DO THE MATH! Let's say you get 15 MPG now and would get 28 MPG in a lawn mower, I mean a fuel efficient vehicle. To travel 1000 miles it would take 35 gallons of gas in the weed wacker and 66 in the truck. That's a difference of 31 gallons of gas. That means you would only have to fill up 1 and some change more times. That's not bad at all over the course of 1000 miles. The money savings will not be very impressive, it's only psychological. Plus you are willing to LOSE up to $4000. C'mon you don't want to go through all of that just to drive a roller skate do you?

Cool

I know Raoul! I am a jumpy and nervous person What Cougar Guy said makes 100% sence but I still have 4 years to pay on my truck I didn't buy it new.

Oh and oops on that 20,000 dollar remark? It really is more like 12,000 to 15,000 dollars, sorry about that one!

Plus I plan on starting out a business and a joint business venture so I need less debt! At first I couldn't aford my truck payments but I worked harder and made more cash! Problem solved? Or did I just do something stupid? The hard part of getting rid of my truck is that I will be getting 1200 dollars worth of off-road lights and around 2000 dollars worth of off-road stuff like pushbar, nerf bars etc...
(I didn't pay them --- Part of my job hehehe). Only time will tell, If I sell it GOOD; if not Well I get to tuff it out a little longer and you will hear me say this all over again in a couple of months LOL!!!

ATST: come on over and spank me silly! I'm a bad boy I live in Granby/Quebec, follow directions to the Zoo from Autoroute 10....

And no a ZX2 will NOT be on riceboy page it is made in Mexico (American Car?) LOL!!! I don't believe that the gas prices will come down!

Pride is a good but evil feeling! Too much pride will drown you! I can take pride in a Zx2 heck I had pride in my 84 Cougar, who cares what other people think!!!! If you own an F150 just because it makes you feel better than your neighbor than you have a problem my friend.

Have a nice day peoples
Steve

I am one of those nasty "luxury SUV owners". I feel your pain! Unfortunately for me, my two Labs won't ride in the back of a truck, only inside and on leather seats!
Seriously, try to think back to all of reasons why you brought the truck in the 1st place. Also, all of the reasons you enjoy driving it and working on it. Going into business for yourself, you will already be making a number of sacrifices: less personal time, more work hours, paperwork, etc. With all of that, spoil yourself and drive what you truly love to drive.

Oh yeah, with your own business, you can write the extra gas money off as a business expense! :-)

Good luck with your decision.
