Tv help
Need some advise from you guys on a new TV. I have (had) a 36" jvc flat screen (big heavy tube thing) until a power outage, surge yesterday took out the TV, Direct tv box, DVD, home theater system here near Buffalo. Insurance will cover all but a 250.00 deductable.
Now i am looking for about a 46-50" Tv but which is better LCD or plasma i have no clue What brand is best and can i get one for under 1K. Help me out here with some info. Also lost 3 85 year old trees, a transformer and a electric pole. The old ford pulled a 90' tree backwards up the road as it was laying across it.
Thanks

your best bet is to find something for a good price at best buy or walmart (warranty and easy return there vs. buying online) then research the crap out of that particular model.
go to places like epinions.com and youll definatly know if there was a defect, because alot of complaints will pop up.
i cant really push a single brand, i have a polaroid 46'' lcd and i love it. got it off craigslist for 600 bucks used. it looks great from all angles, looks great in hdtv, etc.
my other is a cheap-o 15'' lcd that i bought at walmart- dont remember the brand and dont feel like getting up.. i took it to iraq with me and it did fine, and now sits in my weight room and still looks great.
there used to be this whole lcd vs. plasma thing, but technology with the lcs screens has come a long way.

Hurry up and get a Pioneer PDP-5020 or PRO-111FD before they sell out. It's the BEST TV on the market, period. Otherwise, get a Panasonic plasma. Everything after that just sucks ****. LCD's are total crap...
... oh, just noticed the 1K limit. Get a Panasonic plasma then... The Kuro's are out of that price range.
Gotta run, just ignore what anyone says.

I have a 55" Hitachi plasma in my living room and a 52" Sony LCD in my bedroom, and I can tell you that, hands down, I prefer the look of a plasma over that of an LCD. The colors look so much more natural on a plasma. Motion looks better on the plasma. Unless they stop making plasmas, I won't ever buy anything but a plasma TV...unless something better comes along.
Thats for sure, I saw a 50" Panasonic plasma selling for $899.99!!!!

Well i ended up with a 42" LCD it is a 42LG50 made by LG. It is a great looking and so far wroking set. They had so much to choose from i was going crazy.. It works well and fills in the space nicely. The picture is great and it is a 1080 for 900.00. I am happy to join the flat screen generation...

D they had no stock on any of the Pioneer's you mentioned above or the panasonics. I did see a couple in action and they were great. But again n o stock on them and no lead time to get one in. I looked at the rest and found the LG to be one of the better ones.
I kind of liked the plasma's though???

LG is a good company, mid-range... not to hefty on the price tag but plenty of option. I bought a Samsung 46'' LCD and absolutely love it.
My brother works for Sony as a market research analyst. He's told me many times that if you've got deep pockets, plasma is the way to go.... but only if you have deep pockets.
Plasmas are more geared to the more "fortunate" of the world because they can afford them right off the bat, and can afford another in 5 years when the picture starts to loose its quality.
Not really...my den is about 22x17 and my bedroom is about 12x26. The bedroom is actually like a master suite, with a sitting area off to one side, which is why it is so long. The 52" in the bedroom is too large for the room, but I like not having to wear my glasses when i watch TV. My 16 year old son also has a 50" LG plasma in his bedroom, and it's like a space heater. His room stays hot all the time with the TV, PS3, XBox360, Wii, and two computers. I need to start charging him for the electricity he uses!
Folks are usually pretty brand loyal when it comes to electronics. Myself, Toshiba has been my brand of choice for TVs. I've purchased 4 in the last 20 years. The newest being a 37" LCD. Biggest that would fit in our armoire. The CRT was moved to the basement for the kids' gaming consoles. The other is in our bedroom. The other is in the kitchen. They just keep going. I've heard and read that plasmas lose picture quality or develop burn in over a relatively short life. I haven't researched TVs forever. Any truth in that?
