dog got sprayed by skunk

Girlfriend white dog got in a fight with a skunk last night and lost It came running in the house wet and barely keep his eyes open and smelling like a skunk. It smell so bad you can taste it. I'm glad she had skunk shampoo. He got a little to close.

I grew up in pretty rural part of Colorado, and our dogs got skunked every so often, it is a horrendous smell. But from my expierience, skunk shampoo does not work as good as tomato juice for getting it out. Just wash your dog with regular shampoo and tomato juice, usually a couple times. Good luck either way you go about it, skunk smell is disgusting.

Thanks for your advice He still smells and the house smells a little We have to do something tonight. We didn't realize it until he ran in the house. We can't open the windows because it around 30 degrees outside

Her other dog got sprayed couple years ago. And she didn't have any shampoo.(Poor dog) I never knew a dog that actually got sprayed. I smelled skunks roaming around the neighbor hood

I've never smelled anything that's been skunked. What exactly does it smell like?

We got sprayed opening day of pheasant season this year. Found a recipe online that called for hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and something else. Seemed to work pretty damn good for the dog. Still have a hint of skunk on one of my boots though...

My vet suggested a couple of gallons of milk. It worked pretty good. This was after a tomato juice bath though. I don't think there is anything that can take out the smell totally except time and a few shampoos.

Our Schnoodle got skunked twice last fall. Luckily it wasn't full in the face skunked, the skunk was on the other side of the fence and I think he sprayed was before the barking dog got there. Both times the wife rushed him into the bath and just used plain VO5 hair shampoo and that worked fine. Might not have been so lucky if he had gotten any closer.

Had a dog that could find a skunk anywhere within a 1/2 mile radius! My wife and I tried all the usual remedies without great results. Finally, our vet told us to use Massingil (sp?) feminine product. I know, I know, but it did a better job than anything else.

FWIW....

If we could bottle it and shoot it at the terrorists, we would have won years ago!
