Continental Flight 3407 Crashes in Buffalo, nobody survived

Sad sad news. Godspeed to the crew and all family affected. Completely awful. I've actually met the First Officer before too. Man this is heart breaking.

Very sad indeed. My brother and his family live less than a mile away from the site. My ex-girlfriends younger brother was actually at his friends apartment at the corner of Clarence Center and Goodrich (see map http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&cl...-8&sa=N&tab=wl ) at the time of the crash. Very scary, and very sad.

It's awful when things like this happen. It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about what happened. Thoughts and prayers to everyone.

While everything is preliminary, it sounds as though other pilots were reporting some icing. People on the ground report hearing the engines 'sputtering'... Whatever happened, it's a tragic event and marks the first fatal crash of a commercial airliner in 2.5 years.

That sucks...
I hear of a lot helicopter crashes (many in the GULF and in EMS industry) and they always hit close to home as I have friends working for a lot of the major operators out there.

Very sad indeed.

Turboprops are prone to icing. My Father lost a good college friend (groomsman in my parent's wedding) in a turboprop icing induced crash.

Did anyone else hear that one of the passengers on board was a widow of a guy who was a 9/11 victim. Very sad.

Also supposedly 2 of the passengers were members of Chuck Mangioni's band.

They rarely do

Guess this is one of the reasons I am afraid to fly.

I don't know anyone connected to the crash but it truely is horrible. I can't imagine what it would have been like for the people in that neighborhood to see that. It will be interesting to see the list of the rest of the victims as they are identified.

The definition of irony is when I was browsing Yahoo sometime early this week, they had an article on there on how safe the airline industry has been in the past few years without one single accident. What a shame.

Very sad indeed. My heart goes out to all the victims as well as their families. Interesting thing is that according to the news they are now questioning whether the de-icing system worked as it should have given the circumstances. I have been flying Continental Connection flights via Colgan Air several times a year and they have had maintenance issues with this system just trying to get the plane cleared for takeoff. I think it may be time to find a new airline...

Heard about that. Sucks. Especially after the miraculous Hudson River landing in New York a little while back. - Og
