I would just use a crosscut saw on those shrubs. then hang it on the wall till next time. But with it, you can get a close to the ground cut.

On the ranch we have 3 Stihl saws, 2 Husqvarna saws, and a little craftsman. They all get used a lot for firewood cuts, clearcuts and brush clearing after the winter season. The Stihl saws give us the least amount of problems and are the most reliable. Stihl makes an awesome saw, hands down the way to go.

I know, I know... I'm a lazy ***

Using a hand saw, I figure it would take all day to cut them down and get them into shape for the fireplace. With some horsepower in my hands, though, I would think about an hour, tops.

This is only the first part of the process, too. The landscaped area where those trees are will be deleted and grass will soon be growing there. Then there is another spot in the yard where I'm putting in the vegetable garden. These two trees are blocking the sunlight where the garden will be... but that's a whole other thread.

There is something to be said about a chainsaw, though---just startin' one up gets the testosterone runnin'!

I started out with an electric 18" I think by Poulin.
Then a gas 18"
Then a gas 24"

Last hurricane I used all three.
The chains are the same gas or electric.
I like the electric for pruning branches and under five inch stuff like your facing.

You can set an electric down and it is off, your hands are free to move material around. You can hear yourself think you are aware of your surroundings.

You set a gasser down and it's still running, basically. As stated above it does get the testosterone running and the adrenaline. The roar even while sitting on the ground adds urgency to the situation. I know people who are quite comfortable around chainsaws and some of them have eight fingers.

Since you have no experience with chainsaws, start off with an electric which is more than capable of your task at hand.

There is no sense in having a $400 saw that will never get put thru it's paces.

Better than that. Just plug an extension cord into a chipmunks ***. It will go right through those bushes. Just be careful when you sit him down, you may get a ******** rush

I missed the part where he decided to rent.
That would be a good compromise.

Remember Tool Time with Tim Allen...Perhaps He needs to buy the Binford 3400 Nuclear-powered 20 inch chainsaw...anyway, if you have any problems bringing down those trees, call this guy.

Husqvarna is the way to go in my honest opinion. I've always had problems with Stihl. That sapling is definitely hand saw material or truck.
