#FORD needs you
I participate in the Seti@home project. You may or may not be aware of the process ,but here it is in a nutshell.....
Seti (search for extraterrestrial intelligence) has a program that you can download that processes the information they are receiving but do not have the power to process. This program is simple and does not get in the way of other applications you are running.
My whole reason for posting this here is the fact that I belong to a group called #FORD , which of course is just a bunch of ford owners that happen to be doing seti also. If any of you are currently processing for seti we could really use more members in the group. Currently our group is in 133rd place. We are trying to crack the top 100 but just can't seem to process enough.
The link for getting more info on this or to download the software is http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
this is the home page and you can look at the program and statistics from there.
Thanks
Mike J.

I've been a member for years. Quite awhile ago, I decided to respond 'on my own' to some of the data my PC was processing for SETI. We have been 'chatting' for some time now and I just want to say they are a great bunch of (guys?), even though they don't have trucks up there.
We are planning on a rally soon!

Excellent PS398...
All the packets help. I'm currently at 1689, but I am using some of my work pc's to compute also.

the easiest way is to go to the group and click join. This is the link to the group itself http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/stats...eam_12019.html
I can give you all two tips to speed up your seti. These may be well known, or maybe not.
1. turn off the seti screen saver. Just use a blank screen, or really any other screen saver, just not the seti one.
2. change the settings so that the application always runs. After making the change close the app so that it only is on the toolbar.
These two changes improved my time from 34 hrs a packet to 7.5 hrs a packet.

what os are you running? I am now testing this method on a unit running winnt. I will report the results.
PS398
It looks like you are averaging 50 hrs. per unit? what speed of system are you running? Also did you turn off the screen saver?
Vocaire,
Excellent, I saw that you are running about 10 hrs and now have two done.
and the newest member I saw was 99blackf150. I'm sure you had to come from here.
The group is currently in 132nd place. We have been hovering in the 130's for awhile. This is actually the highest that I have seen us. Hopefully we can keep the momentum.
Also to the new members you can go here http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/stats.html
to check your personal statistics. just put in your email address and the system will tell you the position you currently hold. This is fun if you check it after every packet you send up. The first few packets move you up a hundred thousand postions or so. But after you get over 1500 or so packets you move 4 or 5 positions for each work unit.

Win98, P3 500Mhz, 192 RAM. Still only running as screen saver. Need to free up some resourses before letting it run all the time. That Bingo banner at the top of the screen tonight sure isn't helping.
