turbo tax???

my wife has alway done our taxes in the past. We itemize all our
deductions and have a couple of interest bearing accounts IE: ING.
we were kicking around the idea of turbo tax but wondered if it is worth it
in finding more deductions then we would know.....? any thoughts on
it one way or the other? also, is it updateable each year? thanks....

Jim

If you file a 1040EZ it isn't worth it. I used it the past couple of years, but I think I am going with TaxAct now.

My Wife also does the taxes. She uses TurboTax. She has tried some of the other software too, like TaxCut, etc. She has gone back to TurboTax.

I don't know that TurboTax, or any of the others, for that matter, is going to be all that helpful in finding more deductions, but it really does make the job easier.

If you e-file your taxes, TurboTax has some features that let you track your filing as well.

If you use (buy) TurboTax each year, it will import some of last years data into this years forms, saving some time. For instance, if you paid state income taxes last year, it will import that information into this years forms. There are a number of things like that that will save you some time and effort.

I've used TT for the past few years and it is pretty easy to use. They spell out everything for you in pretty simple terms. If I remember correctly they even flag items that are more likely to get you audited. It's very straight forward and you can dig as much as you want for deductions.

Another TurboTax user here. Easy to use, especially if you've used it before and are at the same job/location, it recalls all of last years info and cuts the time it takes even shorter.

Another TurboTax user. Have been using it for years. I like that if you know what you need, you can go direct to the different areas you have to deal with, but you can also let it ask you questions to see if you may have other income/deduction.

I'm a CPA and prepare returns for several clients. I have used different tax programs and I have used Turbo Tax for several years. It is an excellent program. Even if it does not find more deductions for you, it is well worth the money for the ease of use and data it carries forward each year.

I use Taxact and it will carry forward as well. I don't know how much it charges to efile the state and federal on TT but on TA it was 16.95 to efile both and get tracking emails and texts as my status is updated.

Not for me, it wanted to charge me 24.95 for federal and 34.95 for state. But I can't use the standard version, I have to use the deluxe. I went witn Taxact and only paid 16.95.
