Interesting. I buy the Deluxe at Sam's Club for about $43. I'm almost certain it comes with one free efileong, though I never use it.

Not for me as well. I can't remember as it's been a few years since I've stopped doing my taxes (woohoo!) but I know that I was charged for state and/or fed. May have changed but I'd rather pay the extra little bit to have someone go and do it right in 10x less time

Turbo Tax, as most others, advertise free e-filing. It is somewhat true. If you do a basic TruboTax online, you get free Federal e-Filing ... then they whack you for state. I forget what I pid the one time I used turbo tax, but I won't use them again. They don't find anything any of the other sites can't find.

Tax Slayer has been great. Free Federal, $9.95 State, tracking on your refund. E-mail updates. Imports previous years. It basically does everything TurboTax basic will do for much less.

TurboTax will withdraw the cost form your refund, they fully disclose this. TaxSlayer charges you beforehand. However, turboitax deposits your refund for you, not the govt. I realized this when I was mailed a stimulus check last year instead of deposited. Even though I had selected direct deposit, TurboTax deposits it, not the feds, so the stimulus was sent via snail mail. AFAIK, this is not the case with Tax Slayer.

I already filed and received my refund. Actually got it in January.

I was using the online version. It starts out free but if you want to itemize or use some of the other features you have to upgrade.

Turbo Tax deluxe includes free state prep, free fed e-file. State e-file was 19.95.

Been using turbo for many years. No problems at all. E-file cost varies. It can be free. They have rebates and coupons so watch for those.

thanks for all the replies. i guess it is the old fashioned way at this point.
we have them done but were originally wondering if we missed any deductions. but it would have to be huge at this point to get more money back, so i am thinking the wife did a great job!
