Post Off Road Package-authentic?

Bought my 4x4 w/"Off Road Package" used, from a trusted dealer. It has 16" chrome wheels, tow pkg, and no fog lights. I have seen another '97 like mine, wth the same wheels. A 97 brochure says Off Road Equipment Group has 17" alum. wheels and fog lights.

Do you think it's a fake wth decals? How can I tell?

Cool

I thought I had the Off-Road Package also. The only thing different from the package on my truck is the 17" wheels, I've got the 16" wheels. I figure a dealer just added the stickers to make an extra buck. Besides, the 16" tires are a good bit cheaper. Also, my truck was imported from Canada, so maybe thing are different up there...

Unhappy

Maybe the first owner insisted on chrome or 16" wheels. I actually prefer them. What bugs me is the missing fog lights. Saw a post where someone said they had a 4x2 Off Road. Can someone please tell me my truck (whch I love) probably isn't a fake? Will it really matter if I trade it in for a 250 deisel one day? Thanks
Joe

Skid plates, fog lights, heavy duty shocks, 4x4 decals, and the 17" wheels are what comes with the off-road package. If you do not have all of these, then you don't have it. A good way to tell is to look for the skid plates, that can make a big difference. I always though the easiest way to tell a regular 4x4 from one with the off-road package was by lookin at the front for the fog lights.

Oh I almost forgot, do any of yall ever see 4x2 trucks with 4x4 decals on em, I have seen a couple, drives me nuts. I always make a point to pull up next to em, show em what a real 4x4 is. So whether you have the off-road package or not, just be glad you have the great power of 4 wheel drive. It's a wonderfull thing.

Well I may not have all the info on the fog lamps, but here's what I've been told.

* First off, NO 4x2 trucks come with fog lamps from the factory, with the exception of Lightnings. They can be added aftermarket either through your own kit or a kit from Ford.

* All Lariat 4x4 trucks (of any year) come standard with fog lamps.

* All 99 XLT 4x4 trucks come standard with fog lamps. However; in 97/98 fog lamps on XLTs were not standard, but an option.

* No XL 4x4 trucks (of any year) come standard with fog lamps. But fog lamps were an option for XLs for all years.

* No Work Series trucks (of any year) come standard with fog lamps. However; fog lamps were an option in 97/98, but not 99.

P.S. rmagers, can you say beautiful truck!!!

Exclamation

When I ordered my truck I wanted the 16" wheels and no 4x4 sticker. The dealer would NOT give me the ORP this way and I ended up ordering the skid plates & 3.55LS. By the time I figured out that fog lights didn't come standard, it was too late.

MOVEOVER

Please post your complete 17 digit VIN. I may be able to find out what equipment your truck came with from the factory.

Hey Mud,

Wait til I put "SVT 150" on my tailgate ... that'll confuse 'em with a supercab in Wedgewood Blue (until the light changes....)

tina,
i ordered my XL 4x4 Sport & wouldn't buy it until they removed the bright red stickers. i believe they used a type of heat gun 'cause i know someone who used an ordinary hair dryer on a jeep.

i like the plain look so much i wish i could get clear/white lenses for the tail & put a red cover on the bulb, a cadillac technique.

On the "genuine" '99 ORP's the driver side 4 X 4 sticker is ever so slightly askew. That is the only, bottom line, way to tell. All others are imposters.

According to my owners manual all 4x4 trucks have fog lights. I also have the ORP, mine have 17" wheels. I will be going to 16's in the future because I would like 35's on it but you cannot get them in 17". It is possible Ford mistakenly put the wrong decal on. I know 2 guys at work who have wrong stickers on. One guy has a chevy with Z71 on it, the other has a dodge dakota 4x2 with a 4x4 decal on his tailgate. You might be able to call a dealer and have them check the VIN #. I don't know if it is possible to find out that way but is a suggestion. Good luck.

Future mods: underdrive pulleys,4" lift, 16.5 wheels with 33's,ram air hood, and someday a supercharger.

Check to see if you have the front skid plate, and the skid plate that covers the entire fuel tank.

The ORP does come with 17" wheels, but as was said, the owner could have requested 16" wheels.

Just a quickie:

Ford dealers, and all other dealers, have access to a wide range of aftermarket packages, mostly cosmetic, which they can access and order either through trade publications or the net.

As well, and this has been covered elsewhere I think, there are always a lot of local promos. The Georgia Ford dealer group have run numerous special edition packages over the years, consisting of decal packages, wheels and so on. Peach State specials comes to mind and shows up every couple of years.
