High School 1957 vs 2008

I saw this a long time ago. It just rose from the dead so I thought I'd throw it up

Scenario 1:
Jack goes quail hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack.
1957 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.
2008 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario 2:
Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.
1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.
2008 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged them with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it.

Scenario 3:
Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students.
1957 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal's office and given a good paddling by the
Principal. He then returns to class, sit s still and does not disrupt class again.
2008 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The school gets extra money from the state because Jeffrey has a disability.

Scenario 4:
Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.
1957 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.
2008 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The
state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being abuse d herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist.

Scenario 5:
Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.
1957 - Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock.
2008 - The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons.
Scenario 6:
Pedro fails high school English.
1957 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.
2008 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but
ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

Scenario 7:
Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed.
1957 - Ants die.
2008- ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents -- and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly
again.

Scenario 8:
Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.
1957 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2008 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

Yep, seen that before, but it's still good. Times have definitly changed. One teacher I remeber was in the 4th grade, Mrs. Murphy. She was a 4'11" little dynamo about 50 years old at the time. If she saw you talking in class, she would throw the chalk or the black board eraser she had in her hand, at you. She was very accurate, too! Needless to say, she was one of the most loved teachers in that elementary school.

Can you imagine that happening today?

Haha, no doubt.

Mrs. Arnold in 5th grade would literally grab you by the ear lobe and pull you out of your seat and pull you to the hall if you did something to tick her off. I mean you thought she was going to pull your ear off. At least that's what they said, I was always good ()

And how a out the 1" thick paddle!!!! They always made sure your head was touching the lockers before they wacked the crap out of ya"

Idk what highschool you got your conclussions from but I can say none of that took place in my high school and i graduated last year.

I had a buddy who use to go duck hunting before school. Always had a shotgun in his truck. He never got into any trouble.

Fist fight after school was the same as in school which was only a 2-3 day out of school suspension.

Interrupting class very rarely resulted in even going down to the office but if it did, you would just have to finish the class period down there or go to in school suspension which you basically sit in a classroom with other "brianiacs" and do your class assignment.

scenerio #4 I wouldn't have to disagree with but I am all for whipping a child when they act up.

the other ones till #8 i have no personal experience of but #8 when I was in grade school it would be just the 1957 example.

Times have changed yes, but i think some of the other examples are a little blown out of proportion unless if your talking about like a L.A., Chicago, or Miami high school. Then again I only went to a high school that enrolled about 1400 kids

oh and the paddel thing..i did get threatened to be paddel by the assistant principal in middle school..for kinda starting a fight haha

I remember the yard stick being slapped across my desk when I dozed off or wasn't paying attention. I got spanked by Mr. Sweet in grade school 1,2 and grade 3.
I remembered during hunting season the Principal would announce over the PA that all shot guns are to be kept in your vehicle or in his office. (I lived in a small country town)

Times have changed.

You must have had the same teachers I had. Miss Lassiter would grab you by the ear, pull you out in the hall and her paddle had holes drilled in it. Another teacher had a paddle that was the center of a palm leaf. That sucker was a weapon!

haha nope. Kids tried sneaking out and smoking. Some were caught, some weren't. I can say though we snuck around and had poo chews, and i had one class were we watched movies a lot and we'd sneak a chew in there but i think if you were caught with tobacco you got a ticket and like a day suspension...

We had a teacher, Hank Kilgore, that was the go to guy for unruly children. The female teachers would sent you to his classroom to ask for your paddling. That guy was 6'3" 250 easy and, being in 4th grade at the time, he was an imposing figure. I used to catch it all the time, being the little wanna-be comedian I was back then. This was the 1970's.

I was home a few years ago, and hadn't seen Hank since Middle School. He recognized me walking though the mall, called me down, and talked to me for an hour or so about how my life was going. I was stunned that he remembered any students he had from way back then, let alone he was able to connect a 30 something face (at the time) to that child from all those years ago. That he gave a damn was beyond what I would expect from most teachers. Though, good or bad, I tend to leave an impression.... Right, Raoul?

only 1400?

i go to a school of 500 and thats starting to push the limits for me.

but we got a Student Resource Officer (pretty much a cop who sits around the school, busts parties, breaks up fights, and talks to disruptive students) last year so i would never bring my shotgun to school after hunting in the morning. certainly not in sight, i possibly could leave it in my bed with my tonneau cover rolled out and the tailgate locked.

You got a nice and trusting high school haha.

School i go to (public with around 3k kids) would have you gone instantly if you had a shotgun in your truck. Our new principal is so strict he tried to ban all drinks during class because of 4 kids overdosing on some cough syrup that was laced with stuff. Took away field trips also and pretty much took away fun.

At least at my school, most of these are right. Maybe the swat thing for a fight is out of proportion. Its normally just a few days of ISS or OSS.

I had an elementary teacher that would whack your hands with a ruler if you couldn't keep your hands to yourself. A kid in class was always getting whacked. I hadn't seen this guy since 3rd grade, but several years ago, he was killed in a shoot out with police. Too bad good 'ole Mrs. Jackson didn't break his trigger finger years ago.
