Its not fair!
How come the Japanese are able to build such small engines with so much horsepower? The Nissan Maxima boasts a 260hp enigine! And I think its only a 3.0 liter engine! I saw a old civic in a magazine that was a project car and the stock 1.9 liter engine was putting out like 250hp after the modifications. Why doesn't Ford borrow some of that innovation and improve their V6?

The Japanese do it with high rpm and advanced technology. These kind of engines are expensive to build and maintain, and the hp can come at the expense of low end power. Brilliant technology, bad truck engine.
As to why Ford doesn't build a higher tech V-6 in the truck, it probably comes down to cost (initial and maintenance). As it is, you can get a lot of truck for $20,000. Ford knows most of us wouldn't pay $5,000 more for a truck with 40 more ponies (all above 4,000 rpm) but is otherwise the exact same.
Also, many people really abuse their trucks, and when the high strung engine starts crapping out, Ford's reputation would suffer.

I spent 3 years in Japan and my car: a Nissan Maxima 5speed. Well it was called a Bluebird over there!!! It was a nice running little engine but it wouldn't have taken the high speeds of America's roads. I think they must make different engines for Japan than the one's they send over here to sell us. Anyways, I was extreamly (EXTREAMLY) happy to sell that car and get back to America and my F150!!! HP isn't everything, I need torque too!!
