Lightbulb How smart is a crow?

I knew crows were smart, but damn. The crow in this video is unbelieveable. Definitely worth 40 seconds of your time.

Hell I though he was pretty smart to just poke around at it with the piece of metal. Sure never would have guessed they could problem solve like that!

I've heard ravens are even smarter than their cousins, the crows.

Watching Animal Planet last night with my kids, they did an experiment with a raven.

They hung a peice of meat on a rope from the top of a pole. The Raven immediately landed on top of the pole, pulled the rope up length by length, standing on the rope when he was not pulling it up, so that the rope and reward did not drop down.

This particular raven did not need any trial and error to figure it out. He solved the problem just by looking at the situation, and got the meat first time.

They said most birds are not smart enough to ever get the meat in this test.

Adaptation at its best. Some guy named Skinner did this test with mice. They pressed a button in their cage and food came out. Kinda the same principal
