Ebay Feedback...

What would justify leaving negative feedback on ebay?

I recently purchased a car for my teenage son through ebay. We went to see the car before paying and decided to go ahead and buy the car. The car ran fine for one week (175 miles), then some oil seals on the engine failed and all the oil ran out of the engine. I would have replaced the seals myself, but when I contacted the seller about the problem, he urged me to take the car to a mechanic and have them fax the estimate to him. I agreed and took the car to a mechanic, where he said that the oil seals, timing belts, and water pump would need to be replaced at a cost of about $650. We had the car fixed, payed the bill, and the car runs great now. When I didn't hear from the seller, I contacted him several more times. Finally, on Monday, I received an email saying that they would not help out with the repair bill at all.

Does this situation justify leaving negative feedback for the seller on ebay? I don't think I would be nearly as upset if he had not told me to take the car to a shop, then told me that they would not pay any of the repairs. I could have easily replaced the seals and timing belts and water pump myself and saved the $300 labor charges.

Depending on the age of the car, certain things should be expected, even a surprise to the seller. You looked over the car and agreed to buy it, it even ran fine for a bit so I wouldn't justify leaving negative feedback. Chalk this one up to crappy luck, or not, the car might run fine for years after this fix.

Well since him and you agreed to the conditions after the fact. Ebay was outta the question, I mean posting neg on him will just result in him filing a thing with Ebay saying you are outta line and they can over look his post if they dont see anything where you and him agreed on conditions they will just revoke your feedback. I mean he sounds like a sorry SOB to me to do you or anyone that way. But you really just gotta have faith. I mean im sure you got a decent deal on the car any way or you wouldnt have shoped Ebay, so take relief in the fact that what comes around goes around. At least your boy has a car that now runs and drives good.
I hate used cars man, and I sorry for your trouble. My grandfather sold used cars my entire childhood. I remember he had a Blazer that had a 3in lift, I wanted that SOB so bad I nearly traded him my project car for it. He never would take the deal, and I wondered what the hell, why not he sold that thing to a lady with 2 kids. On the way to work one day I wasnt but 17 I seen that lady and that Blazer sittin in parking lot of a nearby gas station smokin boiling from the hood, and fuilds all over the place. I just droped my head, got to work and It just over took me I called in said I was gonna be late and made my dad come pick up the car for her. He was pissed at me for awhile but my gosh man, I hated that field to see all those ppl craped outta there money. Cars are such a problem to buy man.

OK, let me get this straight. He told you to take it to the shop and fax him an estimate? Did you fax him the estimate and he agreed to pay, or did you get it fixed first, and then send him the bill?

When you faxed him the estimate, did he ever give you a repsonse on whether he would help or not. Posting negative feedback will let other people on ebay be aware he doesn't help with repairs on vehicles(if he staed he would help). If he didnt say that then he really diodnt do anything wrong.

Unless it stated in the ebay listing that he would help with any repairs or he gave some sort of written warranty then I wouldn't leave a neg feedback. Afterall, it was a used car and you had it for a week. Would you expect a local used car dealer to pay for all or part of the bill when the warranty box on the window sticker marked "As is" is checked?

If anything, leave a neutral feedback explaining the situation in short allotted space or leave no feedback.

As far as faxing you the bill goes, maybe he just wanted to know how much he saved himself if he kept the car.

When you said " We had the car fixed, payed the bill, and the car runs great now." I am assuming you had already talked with the seller about how much he was going to pay towards the bill. If you had not discussed with the seller a price he was going to pay towards the bill then I say just leave him neutral feedback. If there is nothing to back up your claim and he can prove that to Ebay and they wll just turn it around and take the negative away from him. At least your son will have a safe and reliable car now that it has been fixed.

He said to take it to a shop and have the estimate faxed to him. We took it to a shop, they faxed the estimate, which the seller received. We went ahead and had the car fixed. The seller emailed me and said that I was SOL and that it was not his problem.

Yeah, he received the fax and said that we would hear from him by Saturday. Monday rolled around and we had not heard from him. I emailed him again, and received a reply saying that they would not do anything at all. Like I said, if he had just said up front that he wasn't going to help out, instead of having me take the car to a shop, I coiuld have fixed it myself for about $300 less.

Posted this as soon as you did. Man thats some tough luck. The negative feedback you would leave him would justify some of him being a **** about things.

Yeah, if he had just told me that he wasn't responsible and that he wasn't going to do anything, I would have felt a lot better about things. Oh well, you live and you learn.
