Post Lojack?

Reading another post about a car being stolen, I am considering Lojack.....does anyone have it? What did you pay for it? Did it reduce your insurance by any significant amount? How about the Law Enforcement Officers out there, does it really work to recover your vehicle??

Thumbs up

John,

From what I saw when I worked at a Ford dealer...they work really well...and I believe the insurance discount will pay for it.

p.s. Certificates will be mailed by Monday.

I have the lojack as well. Insurance discount was like 5-10%. What I like is the idea of getting my truck back. Cuz like most everyone on here I two have spent money on aftermarket products that an insurance company would probably not want to pay for.I paid $800 from the dealer when I got my truck. Now that I sell cars I look back and think that $500-600 probably would have been possible. (like cars, warranties and alarms are negotiable), any how I got what i wanted and I can afford it so thats what matters. no regrets. the only thing I would do before you get the lojack is to call your local law enforcement and see if they and surrounding cities are equipped to track a stolen lojack equipped car.

Cool

LOJACK IS A GREAT IDEA, BUT YOU HAVE TO HOPE YOUR LOCAL P.D. OR SHERIFFS' OFFICE IS EQUIPPED TO TRACK THE SIGNALS. THE CARS EQUIPPED HAVE 4 ANTENNAS ON THE ROOF JUST BEHIND THE LIGHT BARS. THE DEPT. I WORK FOR HAS 1 CAR OUT OF 100 UNITS EQUIPPED WITH THE TRACKING UNIT, PRETTY POOR HUH! THIS IS VERY BAD BECAUSE IT IS USUALLY IN THE SHOP, THE CAR...PIECE OF *****. I WOULD OF INSTALLED ONE, BUT USUALLY WHEN THESE CARS ARE RECOVERED, THEY ARE STRIPPED OR IN A CANNAL.

Talking

Auto tazzer, now there's a mod for me!

"I see you're late for work again." says the boss.

"Yea, my darn Auto Tazzer went off again" says I, as I stumble in with drool on my shirt.

Actually, after to talking to the local police Department, they told me that they contact Lojack when I report my vehicle stolen and that Lojack tracks it for the Police. Don't know if he knew what he was talking about or not. Am going to contact Lojack soon to get the real scoop....

Here's my story:

My '98 F-150 was stolen in Feb. of 1999. My insurance Co. told me that if wasn't recovered within 14 days, they would write it off as a total loss and give me "Market Value" for it. Well after about 10 days of waiting, I went to the dealership and started negotiations on a new '99. I had it picked out and was simply waiting for the time to expire and the insurance check to show up in the mail. At about 1 PM on the 13th day I got a call from one of Houstons finest telling me I'm lucky. They recovered (found on the side of the road out of gas) my truck and it was in pretty good shape. AAARRRGGG so close and yet so far. I asked if they cought the *&^%$# and the cop snickered at me. I was madder that it was found than I was when it was stolen.

Any way, I couldn't keep it. It was defiled. So I traded it in for the '99. I got screwed out of about $1,500 to $2,000 in the process. Anyway, I figured that the next slime ball that steals my truck just might get caught.

I payed about $800 for the system w/ all the bells and whistles. My Insurance premiums were and still are so low, the discount wasn't much to worry about. The payback will be when they actually catch the punk.

I heard about a new product on the radio when it first came out, its called the auto tazzer . It attaches to the sterring wheel and it puts out enough electricity to incapacitate a theif when its touched. Sound worth wile to me!

Its my understanding that Lojack Is a private company and they do the tracking.
Now as for 4 ant behind the light bar, thats funny. All our expys and vics have that with out the tracking system. As for an ant to track the lojack, Its not a radio ant as such its a dome like gps type o thing.
Most of our vehicles have cell, two way, computer link, cb, and the usual am/fm ant's as well. My pv has 3 ants.

Question

Why not go with a simple system which will not allow entry in the first place. You can leave your doors unlocked, so nothing gets broken.

Why chase your car after it is stolen and thrashed. When I saw the condition of mine, I damn sure did not want it.

If I had kept it, I could never have bought my F-150.
