Guy I used to work with hit a guinea in his little Nissan once and tore the hell out of the hood. He was griping about it the next day and serious as a heart attack said, "Good thing it was a hard body, 'cause it would've been worse if it wasn't."

Thumbs down

Last year after the hurricanes and floods, there were a lot of dead animals on the hwys. Mostly pigs and chickens. I40 was awful. I walk around my block every morning and had just petted the neighbors sweet little pooch when someone drove by and killed him. I had to go get his owner and tell what happened. The guy that hit him didn't even stop and then later denied doing it.

Since I live in a rural area, I see (and am cause) of a lot of gopher deaths. If you miss them with the tire, you just shoot them with the trusty Rugar!

Cool topic!!!

I once found a dead possum in the middle of the road. Dead, but not flattened yet. Unfortunately, I was in my dropped Ranger, which only had about 4 inches clearance on the front suspension. Needless to say, the possum was 4 3/4 tall! Two lane blacktop, car opposing me, car full of kids behind..

I dragged him a good couple hundred feet, before, well, you can figure it out! Must have been a truly disgusting sight! (I didn't look back!) VERY substantial whack!

Before selling that truck, I also got a big-ole' St. Louis pigeon (VERY WELL FED AND HUGE!) right in the center of the new billet grill! There were feathers and bird parts everywhere! You know how if you have your rear slider open, sometimes stuff gets sucked in? Well, the feathers and goodness knows what else was.. I planted the brakes, and made a hasty retreat as soon as I stopped, don't like bird carnage all over me!

Cars: mostly Japanese cars and GM products.

Critters: cats, dogs, deer, birds, turtles, frogs (I used to run over frogs with my 10 speed bike!), gophers, skunks (I've personally accounted for at least one), and squirrels. Once in a while a cow gets hit by a semi.

Red face

Deer... Many many deer, including the one we tagged in the explorer last year doing 60. I guess driving past a ski area named "Buck Hill" should have been an indication... Oh well, $4400 in body shop work and the Explorer is good as new.
