Dustoff,
Thanks for setting me straight! As a NRA Life Member it pains me to no end the way I (and every other member) are made to look like toothless rednecks who want to kill everything in sight...
Thanks

Since I now live among many of the "toothless" Rednecks as mentioned above...having only *one tooth* is qualification for this title.

Right on Dustoff!
Gun ownership is a RIGHT, how nice to see that other people out there know the difference! Anyone else ever notice that the Constitution does not have any kind of a "sporting purpose" clause in it as a test for firearms ownership?
None of the guns in my home will EVER have one of those stupid trigger locks, they only mask other problems, like kids not being taught the difference between a TOY and a REAL gun. My son, now 1 year old, will play with toy guns, but he will also know to NEVER ever touch a real gun unless he is under the supervision of one of his parents or grandparents.
If anyone has questions about the right of gun ownership you can E-mail me.

>>>>As we all know in life sometimes you can talk to your blue in the face, discipline them, and teach your child by example right from wrong and they still do things that they shouldn't. Kids will be kids and do things that they know better to do, that they were taught not to do, but because of curiosity and peer pressure give in. I'm not referring to children that purposely kill others out of anger.
>>>>I fail to see how a trigger lock is stupid. Many kids are killed accidentally by weapons because of curiosity or merely sneaking it out to show it off to friends. A trigger lock would prevent this and I don't see how it masks anything. Mine is only on my weapon when it is unattended and there are children in the home. Any other time my service weapon is with me and all my other guns are under a lock and key in a gun safe. A trigger lock just protects the child from his or herself. But hey, to each their own.
>>>>As much as we would like to believe that children will always do what they are told, reality is another story. It appears that all that have posted in this thread believe in educating there children properly about firearm safety as do I. That's fantastic!

JPF1715...you know, you really are a 'cool-cop"! Not half bad for a trooper!! hahaha
I agree with your post. I have always..and will always keep my firearms locked up (gun vault) so my kids and their friends (one day)will never be able to hurt themselves. I don't like any legislation that mandates trigger locks...but selling them (even mandated - I hate to say it) with new firearms is OK by me. As an adult, a person/parent can now decide if they want to use them or not. I have no problem putting a trigger lock on the firearms locked up in the vault (unloaded)..just not my emergency weapon(s). With kids around..(like when our friends visit with their children)..I make sure to lock *everything* up..it is second nature for me.
Like I have said before...if people would just be more responsible...things would be much better. There will always be criminals out there..not a whole bunch that can be done to them until they are caught.

I believe in the right to have a firearm for protection or hunting. Handguns and rifles are alright in my book. I also believe that all automatic weapons (military type) need to kept out of the hands of the public. They serve only one purpose....to kill as many people as possible. There is no purpose in using them for hunting (if you need one of those guns for hunting...you shouldn't be hunting in the first place!).
DFolk88,
I can agree with you about 'automatic' weapons such as full-auto 'assault weapons'(which very few do own)...however..a military style <semi-auto> 'assault rifle' is a great deal of fun at the range!!!!! 'Assault rifles' are very rarely used in crimes...according to governement statistics. Military style weapons do offer higher capacity capabilities...but there are so many out there (hundreds of thousands in the USA or more)..and very few people would ever turn them in..banning them or going *door-to-door* would never work.
If we start saying this weapon is OK, this one is not..where will it end?
The government wants to ban the .50 caliber rifle...they don't serve any 'real' purpose..very powerful..extreme range...but also VERY expensive to buy! Most people would never or could hope to afford one. I don't think they should be banned...thousands of people enjoy the heck out of shooting them at the range. I know of only one case where one was used in a crime...this is no reason to ban/restrict them. Even though pistols are used in crimes EVERY single day..this is still no reason to ban them.
As an earlier post indicated about California...a **VAST** majority of people there did not comply with the 'requirement' to turn in their 'assault weapons'..even under the 'threat/promise' of punishment!!
Despite the 'crap' being reported in the news and on TV...*MOST* Americans *DO* reserve the right to own a firearm.
