Asus is a better brand name than the Acer. Asus is the leading name when it comes to a lot of computer hardware, mother boards etc...

HP has terrible customer service

I don't know much about Acer, except they make very unreliable monitors. And their customer service is just about as bad as HP, when it comes to having warranty service done.

I did some research when my fiance wanted one. I played and researched. I know small is the key but the keyboard being close to normal size is most important as far as usability. Screen will all be small and some of the smaller ones will not properly fit a web page. This is why we opted for the ASUS eee pc. I was concearned about the size of the solid state HDs. The last laptop she had she filled right away with stuff and knowing that I made sure even the largest of the available SSHD 40gigs was still insufficient. I am not happy with her having Linux and me not being able to help with tech support over the phone as we still live at separate schools for a few more months; XP was a must. I think for $399 or 425 shipped she got the 1000 HA and it is awesome, even at full brightness the auto performance setting lasts nearly 5 hours. It will supposedly last 7 or 8 with lower settings. Everyone who sees it is intrigued and asks all about it. She got the white one so it is an eye catcher to those who know. Not having a DVD drive is a downer that is to be accepted but of the most part most programs are downloadable, or if you have the left over parts like myself I used a 5.25" external box and put in an old DVD burner drive I had so she can inset DVDs or CDs is necessary. Any more questions let me know.

Wow! I never realized you can get one of these things this cheap. They are recommending one for my little boy to use as a communication device since he cant really speak very well. I wouldnt think he would need one very loaded up since thats all he would be using it for. I guess maybe one that would be very durable as he would have to carry it around alot. Any ideas as far as that goes?
