If you really want an eye opener - document EVERYTHING you consume in a day. Calories, grams of fat, protein and carbs. Add it up. Consult a fitness/nutritional guru with the documentation and find out where you should be. Work to meet those goals while you continue to document... soon you'll see on paper how much and what types of foods you can consume in a day.
Your forgeting something. Abs are the core muscle! Strong abs will make lifting heavy weight much easier.

Dude, that is awesome. It really is amazing what you can accomplish in a short time when you are disciplined. Keep up the good work man!

I didn't know you were dieting and exercising. I started Anytime Fitness about the same time you started. I'm working out with two buddies I've had since High School. We're all about the same size and lift pretty close to the same weight. I've cut out almost all soda from my diet and drink crystal light at work. And when I get home it's just plain water. My biggest thing was the lack of portion control. Now I eat one fruit and a packet of oatmeal for breakfast, a healthy choice meal for lunch and eat a regular dinner but limit myself to one plate or bowl or whatever we're having. I've lost about 12 pounds so far, but I'm also hitting the weights pretty hard too. My first week I could only max out at a 205 pound bench and last night I put up 205 - 5 times. But I workout 4 times a week. I do the eliptical for 15mins with a 5min cool down and then lift. My workouts last about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. But one night a week I do kick boxing, eliptical, and lifting.

that sounds like a nice work out. I usually run 2 miles, lift the muscle group of the day then swim 20 laps. Its for sure a nice work out. I am training to become a life guard so the cardio and swim is going to kick my ****.

Update. I lost 11.5 pounds since January 4th. I came in 4th in the biggest loser competition at my work. Missed the money by 1.4% That's OK. I'm glad that I've worked hard to get this far. Going to keep it going, riding my bike, and lifting. Hope to keep in better shape than what I had been. Thanks for the encouragement!

Good job Jump n!I was wondering how you were doing. I myself have taken on a bit of a lifestyle change and am doing well with it. Since the beginning of the year I have lost 15 pounds. I have just been cutting my portion sizes and been throwing some healthier food in the mix but nothing too extreme. Been walking on my treadmill and riding my exercise bike about a 1/2 hour 5 times a week. However I have not thrown any lifting into the mix as of yet. I just hope I can keep this going. Best of luck to you!

all i can add is that life in the gym for a single guy is much different then for a married guy with kids. i learned to not jump in to fast, being sore for 1 week just dosent suite me anymore.

i started back at the gym about a year ago. go tuesday, thurday and saturday morning, typically ride dirtbikes every other saturday.
i got board about 6 months ago and i started doing boxing 1 day a week, talk about a work out, and actually learning the proper mechanics for throwing a punch is a blast.
i am still way to heavy but i am down 55 pounds from a 1.5 ago and much more active.

[QUOTE][I started to go heavy again and added a legal supplement /QUOTE]
4" on your arm in that time frame, can i ask what you are using?
i am considering options.

OK, time for another update

January 09, Total cholesterol was 216, triglycerides 512, HDL 24

August 09. Total cholesterol 171, triglycerides 160 HDL 31

I started eating better, took fish oil supplements, and exercising. I am very happy with these results. I know I still need to work on my HDL, but I think those labs are pretty good! No cholesterol meds for me, Yippee!!!!!

I had lost 11 pounds, put about 4 back on. Going to work on that again too!
