Florida F150 Owners

Anyone else in FL. having to register their truck as a commercial vehicle due to weight?
Happened to me with my 2004 F150, and I just re-upped my reg. on my 02, and they said due to its weight, I had to register it as a commercial vehicle. Which cost more, and it due on DEC, instead of birth month.

My 02 is a single cab short bed. There is no way it weighs that much. Anyone else run into this problem?

California requires any open truck too be registered commercial. This includes El Camino, Ranchero, Toyota, Nissan, etc. If the pick-up has a camper mounted, you can seek an exception.
My sister and husband bought a new Chevy Trailblazer in 05. The dealer registered it commercial, saying it was required for SUV. Our 03 SUV has non-commercial plates. Most of the SUV's I see on the road are non-commercial, as well. I am not sure if CA is trying to change SUV requirement or the dealer just screwed-up. My brother-in-law is a heavy truck driver for over 20 years. I know he questioned the dealer on this. He knows the difference.
I guess all states are trying to get more $ on everything.

Normal registration, but due in Dec. I told them that I never carry anything in the bed to keep the tax on the GVW down. Because they ust the total weight of your truck and the heaviest object you haul in the bed.
