Arrow Finally!!!..........I see a REG CAB

Cruisin around, looking for a friendly "talk" and I don't see nothin. I'm on the way home and a Reg Cab Ford with the 99 rims pulls up along side me on FM1171 in Lewisville. It was 1045pm or so, and I tried to get his attention very modestly but to no avail. He pulled on to Spring Meadow area in Flower Mound and I followed suit. I gave him a couple of quick bright flashes, but to no avail. It was very dark so I don't blame him for not stopping. It was Red with a NHRA sticker on the back window with a Village Ford licsense plate frame. If this is you, do you have the 5.4l in that sucker? If so, email me for some friendly "comparing".

HEHE. I didn't quite get it at first, since i've never seen one from that angle in a race. But I see your point. That's funny!

To tell if its a 99-newer, look at the grille. If it has two verticle bars on the grille, its a 99-newer. If it has the honeycomb grille, it should be silverish gray.

Sweet, I've got a 99 'normal' cab with the 5.4.
I'm not done breaking it in though. Only had it 10 months, 13k.
I have never let the tach go past 2000 rpms so I really don't know if it would accelerate quickly or not.

The only time my truck is real fast is when I'm sitting around the office talking about it.

Sweet99...

A 99 or 2000 Z71 decided to take off from a stop sign on me...wanted to race. I was right behind him..and he pulled out rather quickly. He was able to get about 2-3 truck lengths on me before I gave chace. At first..I thought not a chance...he was pulling hard....but I caught him and blew by him at about 95 mph.

The guy would not even look over at me at the next set of lights. Another F-150 victim...thinking "DAMN!"

yes..my 2000 5.4L has a crap load more power than my 98 5.4L ever had. My 0-60 times are right at 7.9 seconds...not bad for a supercab! I bet a regular cab would be a bit faster.

My 4.6 is plenty fast enough I think the 3.55 rear end is a big help well I beat a 99 or 2000 z71 extended cab that was towing a trailer today he never had a chance it proves ford is way faster than any chevy and I only have the 4.6

Dustoff,

A regcab 5.4 for 99' runs 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. I can run it in 8.2 seconds, which is pretty darn good!

No complaints here about the 4.6L ! Both of them can easily give you a chance to check out the front end of any stock Silverado/GMC...and the FORD is not having reliability problems..unlike the Silverado and GMC...as reported by Consumer Reports. "First-year reliabilty has been poor". Ouch!

Also..NHTSA recently released new frontal crash test data for the Silverado, Ford, Dodge Ram, Tundra and GMC. Just don't be the driver in the *new* Silverado or GMC..only 3 out of 5 stars (passenger 4 out of 5).
Tundra was rated at 3 out of 5 stars for the passenger (4 out of 5 for the driver)
FORD and DODGE..4 out of 5 stars for both the driver and Passenger.

All test vehicles were extended cabs that were listed above.

7.5 seconds is outstanding for a reg cab 5.4L!!

Wink

I'm not buying your story Rauol.

slow46....Neil doesn't even live in this country. I wish he did though. That's about the only NA truck that will give me a run for my money.

And Dustoff......maybe you should educate yourself on which truck can do what before I reply. Although you might beat that Z-71 even from a dead stop, look at the wieght advantage. Also, he is limited to 98mph which he probably hit before you did. Can you take out an LT1 convertible Z-28? Next....

So your proving that Ford is faster by racing an already heavier vehicle that was also towing? Wouldn't it work better the other way around, ie: you were the heavier vehicle that was also towing and beat the lighter vehicle that wasn't towing.

Just a thought....

Take it easy

Details, Details. I'm specifically talking about the 99 and newer trucks with the 5.4. Is there a way to tell between a 5.4 and the 4.6? I've raced a couple of 98's with the 5.4 and am looking for the 99 or newer. I keep hearing how they are much faster.

Talking

Look at the rear diff. The 4.6 has an 8.8 and the 5.4 has a 9.25. There is a noticeable difference between the two. That is the only way that I know of to tell the difference without raising the hood.
