The cold.
Layer like a maniac... If you like name brands carharrt...I actually like the Polar King by Key much better. A little bit cheaper where im from, i like the pockets better in the bibs and they last just as long. Some guys i work with went to ****'s Sporting Goods or something of that nature and bought....North Star. Dirt cheap if you go through them fast.....I need a new pair every year. So..... .02 from me
Brands matter nothing to me. just durability and function, i have to be able to layer up and down quickly cause i go from below freezing jobs to working on something with extreme humidity and over 100 degrees at any point in my night. so i might consider bib's and a coat, carhart seems like a fav, but theres no brand preference here. my dad use to wear polar king / key for years. but he wore several layers with that to the point he isnt able to be flexible.
i have 3 things going against me lol, wind, cold air, and idiots running water or shutting lines off that i have to repair so i get wet.
i dont know how fast these fruit acids will eat things. i'll look for north star.
whats a good under wear? i know under armor works great for someone thats being active, is there something a little heavier that might help with trapping heat more?

You had to post that, didn't you?! LOL!
Seriously though... layers are the key. While it's very pricey and might not be the best choice for crawling under a vehicle/machine, Gore Windstopper is, by far, the most effective material at really knocking the wind out. This stuff is unreal, in fact.
I have two jackets and an undershirt made from this material. It is, literally, windproof. It's not cheap and, again, might not be a 'get it greasy' option but, it's unbelievably effective.
