Question Spamming

Ok guys I give up.
What exactly is meant my "spamming" and how does it relate to the mssg boards?
I've heard the term used loosely many times but don't know exactly what it means.

Posting the same topic in more than one forum. Or posting the same message in more than topic.
We sometimes excuse a person for posting the same thing IF he/she didn't know where to post it, and explains that in the message.
Well that's the way I see it anyway!

Couldn't find the right Polished steel design, so once I modify the powercoated ones I just bought, I will paint them.

Q: who wants my "Pocket Mount" chrome ones? Price:cost of shipping, or gas and maybe lunch if you live in S/E MI.

I may be wrong but, I think it is making the same post in more than one location. Some people just look at 'Today's Topics' and when they see four or five new posts and each one is actually the same post again, they get annoyed, then some beer gets spilled, then some punches get thrown around.

At least one puzzle's been solved.
I always post in triplicate and two of them dissappeared.

(You never notice the hired help till they start complaining.)

spamming also comes from 'usenet', or what is more known as 'newsgroups'. It is true that one message that gets posted in more than one group is spamming. It also means people who put a subject that is specific to the group but is actually selling something. If you have a hotmail email address i'm sure you know what i mean. The subject might read "very important!" or "hi it's me" and when you open the mail, it is for a **** website or some other advertisment. dunno if this helps or not.

...not to mention that it causes me to have to spend 15 to 20 minutes deleting the excess posts!

Actually...

The posting to multiple forums, is an issue known as Cross-Posting. This is where a message is posted without alteration to any forum/list to which the post may be relevant to. This was originally frowned upon because of the price of storage and bandwidth on the internet, these days, most browsing software (this was a usenet/mailing list issue origianlly) deletes duplicate messages automatically.

Spamming, in the original usage on the internet, is the act of sending unsolicited email. Most often spam contains get rich quick schemes and other advertising. The reason you see disclaimers on websites detailing that they do not sell or allow 3rd party access to email address's is because of spam. Back in the day, it was common for internet sites to sell email lists of their users to people for this reason, as time progressed and people got more and more unsolicited email, people started to complain. This is what brought on the whole anti-spam movement.

I hope this explains things a little bit better.
